civil war: Civil War History in Lynchburg, Virginia Historic Sandusky- Battle Of Lynchburg 1864 - 10/05/07 11:35 PM
For years I drove past this house on the way to church and never knew its significance in the history of Lynchburg. Sandusky was built in 1808 and was used as the Union headquarters by Gen. David Hunter during the Battle of Lynchburg in June 1864. A few years ago, it became the property of the Historic Sandusky Foundation. The home is now open as a museum. For more information about Sandusky, the Civil War and the Battle of Lynchburg, check out these links. http://www.civilwartraveler.com/virginia/va-retreat/drive-lynchburg.html http://www.historyofwar.org/articles/battles_lynchburg.html http://www.civilwarhistory.com/_122199/battleoflynchburg.htm Map of the area in which the Battle of Lynchburg was fought http://www.civilwarhistory.com/_122199/battleoflynchburg.htm Located at 757 Sandusky Drive, Lynchburg
