I live three miles from Poplar Forest, Thomas Jefferson's summer retreat located in Forest, Virginia. This is one of my favorite local destinations and it will be re-opening to the public April 1, 2009. The Poplar Forest estate originally consisted of over 4800 acres. historic: Archaeology Open House at Thomas Jefferson's Poplar Forest October 6, 2007 - 09/18/07 10:20 PM

Part of the Kaleidoscope Events and what a wonderful opportunity for the kids!
An Archaeology Open House will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2007 at Thomas Jefferson's Bedford County summer retreat, Poplar Forest. The archaeologists at Poplar Forest will share their latest findings at the current excavation site. They will provide a behind the scenes look at an archaeology lab. If you've never taken a field trip to Poplar Forest, this is the time to go. Tours will be held at 11;15am, 12:15pm, 1:15pm, and 2:15. Admission for this event is free, Poplar Forest will be open at regular admission price.
