There is so much local Civil War history in Lynchburg, Virginia but for the history buff, a trip to Appomattox County, Virginia is a must. Appomattox is located approximately 18 miles east of Lynchburg and holds a significant place in American history. It was here that the Civil War came to an end in April, 1865. Appomattox is a small city in a largely rural county.

Appomattox Court House - Where our Nation Was Reunited 142 Years Ago
I love living in Central Virginia. Besides the beauty that surrounds us, there is so much history here. Consider a short drive to Appomattox during the week of April 6-15. It was here on April 9, 1865 that our nation was reunited after the Civil War. The Appomattox Court House National Historical Park will be celebrating the 143nd anniversary of the surrender and there is a schedule of events posted at www.nps.gov/apco.
