What a successful Open House we had this Sunday! A big thank you goes out to Ann Koch of Dewitt Real Estate for planning and organizing the Neighborhood Open House at Leesville Road Estates in Evington. Ann put together an awesome full page ad with a St. Patrick's Day theme. Fourteen homes were held open by six different brokerages. The weather was great, there was a steady stream of cars and people. My broker had 30 groups come through her listing and I had at least 24 groups come through Lot 21 David's Way.

I want to give a shout out to my friend Rich Edwards. Rich is a Mortgage Loan Officer with the Bank of the James in Lynchburg, Virginia. We served on the Lynchburg Association of Realtors Community Outreach Committee together last year. Rich is very involved in our local community and headed up the effort to raise funds to purchase baby beds for infants who were too ill to travel in car seats.

  Owning rental property, you're always on the lookout for a good subcontractor and we have found a gem of an electrician. We've used several over the years but are so pleased with Rodney Hancock. Last year we sold a rental property and at the inspection we realized the Federal Pacific panel box was going to be an issue. lynchburg: Residential Property Management Program, Virginia Tech - 03/14/08 08:15 PM
My daughter Kat is a junior in the Residential Property Management program at Virginia Tech. This was the first  Residential Property Management bachelor's-degree program in the country and was started in 1996. Dr. Rosemary Goss was named its first professor and she is still the head of the program.
The annual Collegiate Jobs Fair just wrapped up today. Kat attended the fair last year and got a summer internship in Charlottesville. Though she didn't get credit hours, she gained the experience these companies were looking for. I'm so impressed by the professors at VT; I never thought my daughter would consider property management, too many days spent cleaning up after evicted tenants. … (13 comments)

Green Drinks Smith Mountain Lake is a new environmental group at Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia. They are a volunteer organization and meet monthly to share ideas and talk about the environment. There are approximately 300 Green Drinks chapters in the US and around the world. This chapter was organized by Carrie Conrad and Lynne Fosman, the groups first meeting was held this past Wednesday. Spring is right around the corner and the Smith Mountain Striper Club is holding it's kickoff event this Saturday. The March Madness Tournament is an annual event and this is the club's first tournament of 2008. The Striper's Club has approximately 600 members and to participate in the tournament you must be a member or guest of a member. There will be prize money and the tournament begins on Saturday at 12:01am. Anglers can fish on either Smith Mountain Lake or Leesville Lake, from land or boat.
