things to do: 2009 Chili Cookoff at The Sedalia Center - Big Island, VA - 10/31/09 08:00 PM
What a great way to spend an afternoon in Bedford County, Virginia! The 13th annual Chili Cook-off took place today at the Sedalia Center in Big Island. Even with an overcast sky and threat of rain, there was a great turnout and an impressive variety of Chili to sample with 35 participating teams. Music was provided by Work Release and the rain held off long enough for us to try every one of the chili's. Check The Sedalia Center's website for upcoming events.

things to do: Brooks Mill Winery- First Winery in Franklin County, Virginia - 03/07/09 11:15 AM

Brooks Mill Winery- Wirtz, Virginia
There are many small wineries in the Smith Mountain Lake area, but up to now Franklin County, Virginia hasn’t been known for its wine (though it is well known for distilled spirits……but that’s another story). In December, 2008, H.T. and Rhonda Page opened the first winery in Franklin County to bottle fruit wines: Brooks Mill Winery in Wirtz.

Blackberry and plum are the varieties currently available. Blueberry and pear are aging in the barrel and have not been bottled as yet. Bottles are $10 plus tax and wine tastings are … (2 comments)

things to do: SCAREMARE 2008: EVERY ROOM REMEMBERS - Still Freakin' You out in Lynchburg, Virginia - 10/02/08 12:05 PM
"When the Frost is on the Punkin"
James Whitcomb Riley. 1853–1916  This is one of my favorite poems for one of my favorite time of year; the air is crisp, it's time for harvest festivals, apple picking, hayrides, pumpkins and Haunted Houses.
Halloween is just around the corner...... if you are within driving distance of Lynchburg, Virginia make plans to come to Scaremare. This is a local institution sponsored by Liberty University and is appropriately held in a large, old creepy, claustrophobic building. You never know what's going to come out of the woods or what might grab at your ankles! … (19 comments)
