football: Please Help....NFL Players - 06/21/11 07:26 AM

Hundreds of Professional Football players in our very own nation are going to be locked out, living at well below the seven-figure salary level. And as if that weren't bad enough they could be deprived of their life giving pay for several months, possibly longer, as a result of the upcoming lockout situation. But you can help!
For only $27,080 a month, about $902.75 a day (that's less than the cost of a large screen projection TV) you can help an NFL player remain economically viable during his time of need. This contribution by no means solves the problem as … (12 comments)

football: So What's it Gonna be in 2011...Say You? - 01/01/11 08:10 AM

So...here we are again, amidst the dust from many new resolutions sworn to over the last 24 hours. Rose parade on TV and some football, of course!
But the wish I heard more than anything else this past week was "hoping for a better year in 2011' and that kind of sentiment tells me people weren't happy with the events of 2010.
What is in the cards...according to your prognostication for 2011?

football: No more Monday blues for me! - 09/12/10 05:45 PM
Many people dread Mondays. Back to work, lots to catch up on, and a whole work week until the weekend.
But with the return of NFL football, I with many other sports-loving Americans are now looking forward to Mondays.
Here is tomorrow night's schedule:
Baltimore vs the New York Jets -- 7:00 pm (ET)
San Diego Chargers vs Kansas City -- 10:15 (ET)
I will be rooting for my Chargers. Football fan or not I hope everyone has a wonderful Monday and a very productive work week!

football: Healthy Eating Tips to Kick Off the Super Bowl! - 02/05/10 07:29 AM

So I know the last thing anyone wants to hear is don't indulge and drink / eat a lot on the day of super bowl, but what if you can enjoy yourself just as much without going home and feeling as if you are in a food / beverage coma and need to fast for the next week! Here are some helpful pointers that will hopefully help you enjoy your day and not feel ill by the end!
Avoid creamy dips that are loaded with fat. If you are hosting your own party, mix yogurt with avocado and … (6 comments)

football: Super Bowl Sunday Fun! - 02/02/10 09:12 AM
Super Bowl is definitely one of the more exciting events people look forward to at the  beginning of every year. Well my good friend, Tim McCune, one of the proud owners of Salt Creek Grille in Dana Point will be hosting a Super Bowl Extravaganza in honor of the exciting Cults vs. Saints game!

Salt Creek Grille is offering a celebration of the Super Bowl for the entire weekend. On Saturday and Sunday, the restaurant will feature 1/2-price drinks and appetizers in the bar. Also, the bar menu will feature a special burger and beer combo meal for $8. So … (8 comments)

football: Will he or won't he? - 01/25/10 01:50 PM
Brett Favre has a lot to think about these next few weeks. Instead of going to the Superbowl, Brett Favre gets to decide if he is going to retire or give it another shot.
Everyone is wondering if this is will be the end of Favre's Hall-of-Fame career. It's no doubt he is one of the greatest, but his age will start taking a toll on him. If he comes back it will be his 20th season playing pro football.
I am most curious about Packers and Vikings fans and what they think about this. Any of you out there care … (8 comments)

football: Congrats Alabama! - 01/07/10 04:48 PM
Congratulations to the new BCS champions, Alabama

What a team! Not only did they win the National Championship, they also bred the Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram, who scored the clinching touchdown. The 37-21 victory over Texas was a great game. Hope some of you go to enjoy it.

This weekend is IT, if you like rivalry football games.
What makes a successful college football season? Sometimes it's as simple as beating the snot out of your college rival team. And some of these rivalrys have been going on for a half century and longer...
So, take some time out to enjoy your favorite team today...and may the best school win! (wink wink).

football: Football Brings Death to Baseball? - 09/14/09 04:30 PM

Every year on or about April 1st, baseball opening day captures the hearts of Americans.  Baseball is great but think of the challenges it faces in the battle for viewers.
In May and June it's baseball vs. basketball playoffs, then baseball gets to enjoy the limelight for July and August.  But ohhh nooo...there comes September and with September comes football - college and pro.
So again, baseball takes a back seat until the world series...and then - well that's what 2 TV's are for.

football: Unwarranted Hype with USC vs. OSU today? - 09/12/09 08:42 AM

Every year they try to make some big hype out of the USC vs. Ohio State game...and every year it's just a plain ole whoopin.  Oh, you know who gets the whoopin right?
The Big 12 continues to show that they lack the speed the Pac 10 possesses.  And speed just flat out kills...it wins ball games.
Could it be the terrific weather and outdoor training year round?  Maybe.
Could it be that Pac 10 schools just attract the most talented players to show off their skills?  Maybe.
Whatever it is...we all hope it's a great game that can hold … (0 comments)

football: Name Your Favorite College Football Team to Cheer For? - 09/07/09 03:42 AM

We are just now recovering from the 1st week of college football, and I wondered why I cheer for certain teams where I did not go to school?
Is it local or perhaps regional pride? Is it perhaps where your kid goes to school, maybe the coach or the stadium? What is this phenomenon?
I'm guessing that many around the country cheer for a college football team...but what are your reasons?
Let's get it all out on the table - and who is daring enough to predict the National Champions this years?

football: Has Superbowl Become a National Holiday? - 02/04/09 03:59 PM

Hey...don't get me wrong, I love football although I love college football more that the Pros because to me it's about heart and pride than it is about money (though they are going big to get a pro contract).
But that is not the point...it's the Superbowl I'm referring to.  The grandest holiday of them all.  And a holiday that you don't have to buy presents for or spend a lot of money to enjoy.  Just a TV and a few cold ones, some snacks and POW...great entertainment.
When I was younger in this business (several decades ago) I defied … (1 comments)

football: Finally Made it to Disneyland... - 05/11/08 03:21 PM
Doesn't every big sports winner go to Disneyland right after that big victory?
Well, Eli Manning finally made it to Disneyland last week after his big Super Bowl victory on February 4th of this year.  Manning was the MVP of the Super Bowl...and not many would argue with that!
So what if he was late...he kept his Super Bowl promise, right?  And there was a big parade with thousands of cheering football fans there.
Manning gave the kids some advice in his speech, saying they should play every type of sport and to enjoy it and work hard at it and … (2 comments)
