home: Spring Bling Planting Guide For Your Garden ☼ - 02/28/13 02:04 AM

March is a prelude to spring when Mother Nature begins to shed some of her winter coat and prepares for spring's renewal.  It’s time to begin preparing your garden for spring's big bloom.

Time to plant summer bulbs and specific flowers. Time to Fertilize citrus and fruit trees, roses and perennials. Prune evergreens this month, but avoid pruning them later on in spring and summer. Deadhead winter annuals. Weeding.

home: Caruso Never Sleeps ~ Social Media can be a Risk to Your Safety… - 10/28/12 06:17 PM

Do you know people that like to “check-in” on FB or other social sites when they are out and about? They might think it’s cool to let the world know where they are But…

Does anyone think that they are also telling burglars where they are? Let’s face it, stalkers are stalking FB and other sites too. When you “check-in” at places that are far away, you’re allowing someone unscrupulous to calculate how much time they would have to invade your home or business to commit a crime.

Think, before you let the world know where you “check-in”. … (18 comments)

Great way to reuse and recycle your plastic soda bottles.  This would be great for school, home, apartment or office. Could easily be done for a small or large space area.

home: How to keep the "home" out of a home office - 11/23/09 12:39 PM
Keeping your business and personal life is key to staying sane. But sometimes it can be tricky if they take place under the same roof. So if you are deciding on setting up a home office, or need to renovate, follow these tips from HGTV and Lowe’s:

Draw a line between work and play with your computer: although tempting to use the family computer for business, you should separate the two. It will eliminate the chance of someone deleting an important file. Install additional phone or cable outlets if needed to accommodate your various office equipment. Divide the office into … (5 comments)

home: Home Sweet Home...and Safety Too! - 10/29/08 05:56 PM
Fall is a great time to take half of a day and reevaluate your home's current safety level. Here are some ways to do so:
*Clear clutter from stairwells- This sounds simple, but it's important to keep the stairs clear for a quick exit, and to prevent a possible stumble.
*Check heating equipment-Fires due to heating equipment are most prevalent during the fall and winter months, so double check to make sure all heaters are in proper condition.
*Guard against poisons-Examine cabinets in the kitchen and bathrooms (and anywhere else you may keep substances of this sort) and move anything that … (3 comments)

home: Time for a Comeback for Large Families - 10/02/08 09:11 AM
Have you noticed the influx and popularity of reality television showcasing large families? I'm not talking about four kids and a few pets. I'm talking 8, 12 even 16 children!
It seems the common thread in these shows is that the family unit is the most important thing. Consistency and multitasking ensures everyone knows their place and that their contribution is vital and appreciated.
You don't see a lot of "Keeping Up With the Jones" type attitude in these families. They are just living their lives and doing the best they can. And they seem to be truly happy.
For many … (5 comments)

home: Where Does Your Food Come From - 10/02/08 09:07 AM
I think here in Southern California we are way ahead of the "where does my food come from curve."  The proliferation of organic-only farmers' markets seems to support that idea.
Now the federal government has gotten on the band-wagon. A federal law takes effect this week that requires supermarkets and other big food retailers to label the country of origin for meat, produce and certain kinds of nuts.
I guess that's good. I mean, for me, it's not so much about the country of origin as it is the county of origin. I like my food to be grown or to … (2 comments)

home: Just How Easy is it to Prepare Your Home For a Sale? - 09/06/08 09:32 AM
Quite often, I hear clients ask, "What can I do to prepare my home for a sale?"
Start by removing any unnecessary items which may be crowding up parts of your home, as clutter can often detract from flattering areas. Don't shy away from placing boxes in the garage.  Potential buyers won't be worried about the presence of the boxes, since your plans to move are no secret.
Next, consider arranging your furniture in a different way. With any extraneous items out of the way, take another look at the layout of major pieces.  Moving furniture around is extremely helpful in … (0 comments)
