spokane: The Tiny Car Shop - Import Specialists! - 02/02/10 11:49 AM
I wanted to take a moment to send out some much deserved respect to the Tiny Car Shop in Spokane. Located near the corner of Nevada and Francis, this little shop is easily over looked from the outside, but don't be fooled!! Every dealing I have ever had with Craig and Kara has been the absolute best. I am a thrifty shopper and will still check around, but I have yet to find a better price than the one from TCS for my Volkswagen. Every quote I have been given has come in at the exact price or often times much lower! Do yourself

spokane: Spokane Refinance -- Bank of Whitman - 01/09/09 05:43 PM
As I am sure everyone has heard, rates are near all-time lows. My phone has been ringing off the hook with new and old clients trying to take advantage of the sub 5% interest rates that are available right now. !!!NEWSFLASH!!!I am not the only Loan Officer experiencing this. There is a refi wave rolling through the entire nation and lenders are entirely SWAMPED! Turn times have increased, Wells Fargo today released a note saying to lock no shorter than 45 days and were wanting 60day locks to be safe. Some lenders like Chase reprice for the worse half way

spokane: Not so good news for Spokane - 11/24/08 04:41 PM
But not so bad for Spokane Valley. CQ Press City released their annual Crime Rankings today and Spokane out-ranked Seattle and Portland, while Spokane Valley, Bellingham and Bellevue came in toward the bottom of the list. In Idaho, Boise and Nampa also came in toward the bottom. "We're faced with more and more violent crime than in the past," said Spokane Police Sgt. Joe Peterson. "It's a more violent world for sure." Here is how the Washington and Idaho cities stacked up on the list. FYI 385 cities were polled nationwide. No. 39: Tacoma No. 55: Everett No. 84: Yakima No.

spokane: Looking for Greek/Italian Food in Spokane? Check out Opa! - 10/10/08 04:53 PM
My, recently married into the family, greek brother-in-law had told me about Opa! Pizza and Greek Cuising in north Spokane months ago and today I finally had the chance to check the place out. Short and to the point, it will NOT be the last time to go! That's for sure! I met my wife and daughter there for lunch. Unfortuantely, I did not have a chance to check out their pizza (which they boast is the best in Spokane), however you know I am next time we go there! Both my wife and I ordered the gyro and my daughter tried their pita pizza. We all loved it. Prompt

spokane: How Many Nicknames Does Your City Have? - 08/28/08 04:28 PM
I am curious if there is another city out there with as many nicknames as Spokane has. I recently attended a Gonzaga friend's wedding and a bunch of us sat around and tried to come up with all the names we have heard Spokane called. Below are the results, prefaced by a short history lesson on the true meaning of Spokane! Enjoy! :) Spokane (pronounced Spo-Can) was named after the Native American Tribe Spokan which means "Children of the Sun". The city naturally has its "marketing" nickname in "The Lilac City", but here are a few of the more "creative" names I

spokane: Records are Made to be Broken? Not these ones! - 08/21/08 12:27 PM
When it comes to sports, they are! And the average sports fan loves to see it happen! However, when it comes to weather I don't think I am going too far out on a limb when I say no one wants to see this happen. No doubt the inland NW has experienced some rather unusual weather this year and below I have outlined a little summary of it. Have you experienced weird weather this year where you live? 103: High temperature in Spokane on Aug. 17,

spokane: Doggy Swim Days in Spokane! - 08/11/08 01:05 PM
As many Spokanites know, our community pools are going the way of the Dodo. With the annual repairs and constant upkeep the city has found them too expensive to keep up. The alternative they have developed are random "Spray Pads" for kids in existing parks and two wonderful Water parks on the North and South sides of the city. BethAnn Long details out the South hill Park in her blog http://activerain.com/blogsview/563196/Spokane-WA-South-Hill. A pretty neat thing the city is doing with the last day of public swim is opening the pools up to our 4 legged friends! That is right the

spokane: St. Joseph Family Center, Spokane, WA - 07/29/08 01:45 PM
Many Spokane residents don't know about the St Joseph Family Center let alone the history it has in the with the city. Being a committee member I believe it is my job to spread the word about this amazing facility and would like to share a little history of the organization and show what it offers today. St. Joseph's began as an orphanage in the early 1890s. Sisters from the Order of St. Francis of Philadelphia. They traveled west by train to care for children who had nowhere else to call home. The Sisters struggled to care for the children with little or

spokane: Spokane Nationally Ranked!! - 06/25/08 12:51 PM
There is an article in the latest Men's Health Magazine about a study done to distinguish what cities are the most environmentally conscious in the US. Guess what? Spokane made the list! The study covered a wide range of topics and after compiling a number of factors - gas consumption (Spokane ranked #1 in least amount of Gas wasted!), estimated miles per year, air quality (Spokane Ranked #4 in least amount of high Ozone days!), vehicle efficiency and stats on mass transit, the magazine named Seattle as the top city, Portland at # 3 and Spokane #8. The top 10 is

spokane: Spokane Riverhawks Opening Night! 6/23/08 - 06/23/08 01:38 PM
Although the season is 9 games old, the opening home stand is here tonight! The festivities kickoff tonight at 5:30 at Avista Stadium (game start 6:30 - free magnet schedule give-away). The Spokane RiverHawks are a summer baseball collegiate invite-only league. Somewhat of a Semi-Pro team. If you like to watch great baseball and/or have a fun, cheap family outing, I would definitely recommend checking out our very own Spokane RiverHawks. For those of you that think the Valley is a little too much of a drive don't fret! The RiverHawks games are going to be split between Avista Field (where the Spokane Indians play)

spokane: Why I Love My Job - 04/28/08 02:41 PM
I have always enjoyed helping people. From childhood through college I have participated and led many retreats and organizations designed to help individuals, families, and even companies from all walks of life. After graduating with a marketing and finance degree from Gonzaga I took a job with a startup technology company in town. Although I enjoyed developing it into one of the leaders in its industry within a short period of time, I was unfulfilled. I knew for my next profession that I wanted it to be a long lasting fulfilling career, so I turned inward and asked myself what I really liked. Three things popped up.
