The much-anticipated extension to the home buyer tax credit has finally been approved. The Senate's vote yesterday resulted in a 98-0 win and today it was passed in the house. The bill now moves to the President's desk for a final signature. There is no way it will not be signed. First-time home buyers have been eligible for a tax credit of up to $8,000 since last January as part of this year's economic stimulus package. Interest rates for 30-year, fixed-rate U.S. mortgages increased in the week ending May 28, the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corp. said Thursday. The 30-year, fixed-rate mortgage averaged 4.91 percent with an average 0.7 points in the week, Freddie Mac said.
Not the best news for a potential new homebuyer, but it could be a lot worse.   Yes, I know a week ago the fixed-rate mortgage average was 4.82, but a year ago 30-year interest rates were at 6.08 percent for fixed-rate loans.  Furthermore, the average price of a home has dropped.  Would it have been … (0 comments)
