Best Pizzbest pizza in Romea in Rome - Rome, Italy After living in Rome, Italy for several months in 2006 one of the memories I have was the overall outstanding quality of the food there. From wine (which I didn’t drink prior to living there) to gelato to the pizza everything was always amazing. Now I didn’t start this adventure with the objective to find the best pizza in Rome, but after being there for so long it was easy to find.
Tucked down a side street, across Ponte Sisto in Trastevere is where you’ll find Dar Poeta or in my opinion the best pizza in Rome.

There are several things about Dar Poeta that make it stand out in my mind as the best pizza in Rome. The first is that it is conveniently located around a lot of the tourist attractions (Campo di Fiori, The Vatican), but just out of the way so unless you knew it was there, you wouldn’t find it so there are more locals that go there than tourists.

Something that was important for me, since I lived there in Rome, Italy for so long, was to try new things. They have 2 of my favorite items on the menu, a dessert that is a ricotta cheese and nutella calzone (the small is huge! Definitely split it with a second person) and the bruschetta. Now you probably think of bruschetta and think of diced tomatoes and bread and sure, that’s delicious, but have you tried Gorgonzola and honey bruschetta? And that’s just one of my favorite types there! But I digress, we’re here to talk about the best pizza in Rome.

So what makes Dar Poeta the best pizza in Rome? The first is that they have unique ingredients and pizza combinations to add variety into what you would commonly think about being on a pizza (I loved the Fiorsalmone pizza). This was important for me because I was eating there every single day and it does get boring after a while. Another thing is how the pizza is made. It isn’t a typical Roman crust (low and crispy) or a typical Neapolitan pizza (thick around the edges and spongy in the middle), it was cooked all the way through and was almost a fluffy kind of crust (totally delicious and unlike anything I’ve had there before). Eating the best pizza in Rome means that there are waits (especially for large parties) and it does get cramped in the little restaurant, but if you can be a little patient then you’ll be well rewarded!
