castles broker network: Why Google+ Will Kick Facebook's Butt! - 07/14/11 02:00 AM
Back when Facebook was in its infancy it was cool because it was exclusive.  You had to be part of the Harvard University network...students and alumni.  It wasn't an easy club to join.  For almost everyone it would be impossible in those days.
Google+ is playing the exclusivity card right now and is cool because you need an invitation to join.  There are many social networks on the web that play that exclusive card to the limit. Asmallworld.net is a club that is so exclusive that even after gaining access to it you won't be able to invite even your best … (5 comments)

castles broker network: Another way the IRS is affecting real estate - 06/04/11 04:16 AM
I thought this article on Forbes.com was interesting because it talks about how the IRS is actively looking through real estate deeds to squeeze out a "gift tax". Apparently this tax can be collected even when real estate is given as a gift between 2 parties (i.e. grandfather to his grandchildren or mother to daughter). The article states that the gift tax is the most "notoriously uncollected" tax but that this is changing with the help of public records at county recorders offices and a lot of investigative effort by the IRS. While some states like California are trying to protect their … (4 comments)

castles broker network: The New Castles Unlimited® Signage - 06/02/11 08:42 AM

New signage is really shaping up.  What do you think?  We are looking to have the signage flexible enough to offer three colors depending on the community we are marketing in.  Burgandy and white and Royal Blue and white are the other two options.  Guess we are taking a page out of the Google playbook.  You know how they have a different logo almost everyday?  Why can't a real estate company be flexible too?

Even looks good with ballons!

castles broker network: Not Your Father's Recession - 05/19/11 04:02 PM
I have been in the real estate business for some time now.  I mark time by recessions.  This is either my third or fourth depending if you count the Dot Com Crash as a recession.  I don't count that one as a recession by the way.
This one is actually my first depression or third recession depending on how you count depressions.  If you lived through the Great Depression then this is probably not a big deal.  Back then you were careful of falling bodies that might hit you when you walked down the street.
The long, tough, real estate drama … (2 comments)

castles broker network: $220 Million Doesn't Even Buy You A House! - 08/13/10 08:04 PM
I thought the real estate market was having some rough times around the world.  Even my CastlesMag.com website is seeing some hefty price reductions inorder to facilitate sales.  Our average asking prices have dropped on average about 10% in the past 12 months.
Now we have a sale reported in London for a condo that is under contract for $220 Million US.  Obviously someone either has way too much money...or they don't read the news very often.  I bet they could have negotiated that price down to $215 Million US if they only had a good buyer's broker on their side!
