tx: Operation Home Cooking - Lackland AFB, San Antonio, Texas - 09/18/11 01:07 PM
One of my favorite ways to pay tribute to our soldiers is to participate in "Operation Home-Cooking." My father started this tradition in our home back in the 1970s when I was just a little girl. We used to have soldiers at our house that would have otherwise spent their family day alone, at the "chow hall." My dad would bring home 2-3 young men so they could enjoy family, food, and a little R&R. My husband served too, USAF. When we married we started doing the same thing. I told him he could invite a few friends that didn't have (7 comments)

It's my 1st TAR Realtor Convention and I'm excited! PART 3 (The End, Or is It? I'm realizing I should have started this blog series like this... Dear Diary, Today I had an amazing time at the TAR Convention. It was quite informative and I am certainly glad I went. Couple this with what I learned at the recent 1st Annual Online Raincamp, that's a swollen head's worth. I have to write to reduce swelling, doctor's orders! Haha. I've been blogging daily to highlight the sessions I attended. Today it's all about Activerain. I've been driving up daily from San Antonio (13 comments)
I truly enjoyed listening to Peter Pfeiffer, renowned architect discussing how many of us get sold into eco-bling such as solar powered attic fans, increasing R values, and the value of LowE windows. Say WHAT? Yes, it's ecobling. It's a long story and will require a blog in itself but even me, who has been certified GREEN and Ecobroker for several years found it alarming. Hemisphere Park is one of the coolest things about San Antonio. History, fun, and beauty all rolled into one! About.com says: Originally built to hold the 1968 World’s Fair, San Antonio’s HemisFair Park has been one of the state’s most popular attractions since its inception. Located near downtown San Antonio, just a short walk from the Riverwalk, the 15-acre HemisFair Park has undergone extensive renovation and additions over the years. Today, it features, among other things, exhibits remaining from the ’68 World’s Fair, a labrinyth of cascading waterfalls, a children’s playground and, the landmark of the San Antonio skyline, (4 comments)
I love Oktoberfest! It reminds me of living in Ramstein, Germany back in the 1970's! The cold weather and volks-marches were so wonderful. San Antonio is rich in heritage and has a double dose of German given it was settled by Germans in the 1800s. Fredericksburg is just about an hour's drive from here but well worth it! Shops, restaurants, food, fun, Chicken dancing abound. I hope to see you there! (After Debb Janes' comment I inserted this fun video)
