I previously reported (in haste I admit) that the $8000 credit could be used as downpayment- however, that went out the window almost as soon as it was announced.
It has been officially announced, however, and this time it stuck, that the credit can be used towards closing costs. (0 comments)

Hi everyone! I bring GOOD NEWS! Ok, its not "the" good news, but it's pretty great!
The HUD Secretary today annouced that the $8000.00 first time homebuyers tax credit will now be "monetized" which means that the credit is now available for FTHBs to use as a DOWNPAYMENT! Isn't that wonderful? (0 comments)
