new orleans: New Orleans Centerpiece of New Brad Pitt Film - 12/29/08 06:18 PM
I just saw Brad Pitt’s new film, “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”, at our historic Prytania theatre on Sunday night. I’ve paid more attention, mostly for appreciative reasons, to Brad Pitt’s career since he has decided to make New Orleans his home as well as the focus of his charitable ventures such as his Make It Right Foundation. With the film taking place and having been shot right here in New Orleans (some of the many movie production trucks crowding around historic NOLA sites that have been appearing commonly since Katrina belong to this production), Brad Pitt

new orleans: New Orleans Condos As Good Investments - 12/09/08 02:19 PM
With many market soothsayers predicting the end times, it can certainly rob one of enthusiasm for home buying at this murky juncture. While the doomsayers are more prevalent in recent months, this cacophony of negativity is not necessarily accurate, particularly in regards to specific markets, so it is always worth your while to do some research to find out the truth of the situation. To this purpose, respected Business journalist Kate Moran recently wrote an interesting article concerning condominium values in New Orleans: http://www.nola.com/business/t-p/index.ssf?/base/money-1/1227083470157010.xml&coll=1 In case you don’t want to take the time to read Ms Moran’s piece,

new orleans: Pet Friendly New Orleans - 12/08/08 01:54 AM
If you're an animal lover and have pets of your own (or plan to someday adopt a new family member of the hirsute kind), one thing that it is absolutely imperative to keep at the forefront of your mind when looking for a condo is whether the condo association is pet friendly…or not. I have two dachshunds myself and know firsthand how attached we humans can become to our animals. Nowadays, more and more condo associations are going with a no pet policy, which basically equates to a “look elsewhere” policy for pet owners. To benefit pet owners,

new orleans: Brad Pitt's Green Houses - 11/22/08 05:22 PM
We’ve all heard about New Orleans’ many famous denizens. Archie Manning’s and Anne Rice’s homes are staples of any New Orleans Garden District tour worth its red beans and rice. But newer to the New Orleanian fold are the most famous Hollywood stars that operate under a single unifying moniker. I am, of course, referring to Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. The two megastars purchased a high end property in the French Quarter to make their primary residence, and more important than the added tourist dollars that their collective star power will bring to our city (reports of Angelina sightings

new orleans: New to New Orleans, Megan and Andy - 11/22/08 05:12 PM
I made a couple of new friends this summer when two young professionals from California found me from a Craiglist ad and inquired about purchasing a home in downtown New Orleans. Well, Megan and Andy didn’t end up buying a home from me, but we did end up friends. I was telling Andy about my new blogging interest and he came up with the idea of posting a newcomer’s perspective to the New Orleans scene. I thought that might prove interesting to someone else who was thinking about moving to the Crescent City, so I asked him to write a piece

new orleans: In the Military? - 11/22/08 05:01 PM
New Orleans Military Relocation: As a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, I know that frequent transfers are a fact of life in today's military. I've been there and I've done that. No matter how many times you have done it, however, it is never easy to move your family to another city. So when it is time to make your move, consider the many benefits of working with a military veteran who is an expert and who know answers to your questions about neighborhoods, schools, home prices, shopping, organized sports, restaurants and shopping in the area around your new
