Just the facts: In 2009 there were 1069 residential properties sold in Grand Traverse County. Of those 254 were foreclosure homes or tagged as bank owned. That's only 23.7%. Compared with other markets, Traverse City real estate reports a fairly low foreclosure rate. The (monthly) high for 2009 was 34% (March/09) for Traverse City foreclosures reported in Grand Traverse county. The reason for the overall yearly reduction is twofold. One factor is short sales are becoming increasingly vogue and secondly, regular home owners are discounting their prices in tandem with Traverse City foreclosure pricing.
