foothill ranch: Foothill Ranch mountain lion incident: the "real" story - 08/06/08 06:44 PM
There were an unusually high number of helicopters circling my town of Foothill Ranch today. By unusually high, I mean there was at least one compared to the usual zero.
The news services reported that a man had been walking in Whiting Ranch, our local wilderness park, when he came across a couple mountain lion cubs, which he decided to pet because he thought they were cute (!!!). At that moment, the mama lion came by, whacked the guy with her paw, then ran away with her cubs.

I love Foothill Ranch, I do. It really is a lovely little community. It's well-groomed and green in spite of the hot weather. In the words of Garrison Keillor, Foothill Ranch is almost a place where "the women are strong, the men are good looking, and all of the children are above average."
I do have a love-hate relationship with one aspect of this city, however. It has to do with the statues you see pictured here. At first glance, they're not so bad. They portray what I assume is the average Foothill Ranch family, missing only the dog. The dad … (0 comments)

foothill ranch: Suburban Bliss on hold in Whiting Ranch - 06/11/08 12:57 PM
One of my absolute favorite places to go in Foothill Ranch (besides shopping and restaurants!) is Whiting Ranch Wilderness Park. Located at the northern side of town, the park has two official entrances and boasts as many trail variations as hikers and mountain bikers can ask for.
It's a beautiful place to be year-round, and has a whole host of wildlife to keep visitors on their toes. In my various visits into the park I've come across all sorts of insects, lizards, birds, deer, even a rattlesnake, but thankfully no mountain lions.
