id theft: Warning: New ID Theft Law So Subtle You May Have Missed It - 02/02/07 01:20 PM
A bill that was signed into law back in May 2006, but didn't go into effect until Jan. 1 may have been overlooked by those of you owning a business.  If you are in charge of the payroll or are in business for yourself, then keep reading as there is a law that applies to the issuance of paychecks.
In a polling of business owners in Maryland, several business owners did not realize that as of Jan. 1, 2007, it is now illegal to print Social Security Numbers on paychecks and wage statements.  Many businesses have been using SSNs on the paychecks … (4 comments)

id theft: Credit Monitoring Not Good Enough to Prevent ID Theft - 12/27/06 09:18 PM
Not too long ago there was an article in the New York Times that highlighted the fact that credit monitoring services are mostly a waste of money.  The article discussed an id theft victim's plight after 26 credit cards, several cars, and even a home mortgage were acquired using that person's SSN.

What is Medical Identity Theft?  Simply put, it is similar to all other types of Identity Theft in that someone pretends to be you, maybe through the use of fake ids or other falsified documents, and seeks medical care in your name so your insurance will flip the bill.  It sounds … (22 comments)

Additionally, during my training for the CITRMS (Certified Identity Theft Risk Management Specialist), I found that while the link above is a great place to start, there is a lot more you need to know and do to protect yourself, and your business.
