You all know that I am not a fan of government interventions, nor government regulations that are absolutely insane, such as the new HUD GFE. I am all for government regulations that actually do what they are supposed to do, which is to protect the consumer and give them good, solid guidance on how to shop for their mortgages. Unfortunately, the new GFE goes in the opposite direction.
HUD made the announcement last month, and stated the new GFE and HUD-1 Statements would save consumers nearly $700. I have no idea where they came up with the $700 savings, nor am … (2 comments)

Many thought Richard Dutrow, Jr. was, dare I say, egotistical since he was saying this week that his horse, Big Brown, would win the Kentucky Derby. Many thought he was overconfident and that the odds would prove that since they were against "inexperienced" horses.
Nevertheless, Big Brown did pull off the win. So, what does that have to do with mortgages and rate shopping in particular? Let's compare races.

rate shopping: Dilbert and the Mortgage Market: Can You Relate? - 08/13/07 04:07 PM
This Sunday's paper had a Dilbert cartoon strip that caught my attention and related directly to how mortgages are being offered in the name of "competition".
The Dilbert cartoon was about the boss asking Dilbert to prepare a proposal that is full of lies and which if they were to win, they would have to add "unexpected" changes that would eventually drive the costs up.
