I keep hearing people complain about the Compass Rose Park on Pope Avenue & New Orleans Rd. I wonder if the people who are complaining have been to the park. If they had been to the park I don’t believe they would be complaining. The Town of Hilton Head Island and Ed Drain did a wonderful job with designing and building the park. The landscaping has begun to mature and will only get better with time. I went by the other day and took some pictures of the flowers, Wall boards depicting the history of the island, and the statue of

There have been numerous articles recently about the quality of water in the May River and other pristine waterways that are a part of the lowcountry estuary system. (I have posted a few below) They all lead back to one problem. Our county and town governments have dropped the ball on inspecting the way retention ponds are built, what they flow into, and how do they filtrate the pollutants that they hold. Beaufort County has rules and regulations and standards for developers, but they seem to be more interested in natural buffers along the major thoroughfares (I call them trash collectors).

Once again our wonderful county staff is trying to prevent improving commercial properties. It has become a major obstacle for anyone trying to build or renovate a property in Beaufort County jurisdiction. The argument is weather there should be a natural buffer between the renovations taking place at the old OC Ford Dealership building that is going to be leased to BMW of Hilton Head. The original Arnold Palmer Ford dealership building was built prior to new Beaufort County LMO was passed; so the property is grandfathered in unless it sells and any new owner would have to bring the property
