SP $200,592; %LP/SP 87.51% New Listings: 5,571; avg. price $276,787 Under Contract: 1,833; avg. price $218,182 Withdrawn: 1,548; avg. price $321,976 Expired Listings: 1,303 ; avg. price $306,539 Active Listings: 23,225; avg. price $296,826 The number of closed residential transactions fell 10.7% in January compared to December, but increased 8.4% over that for January a year ago. Purchases of new homes in the U.S. increased 9.6 percent in July, adding to signs that the economy is continuing to rebound from the worst recession since the 1930s. The number of houses on the market dropped to the lowest level in 16 years. The gain in sales, together with rising purchases of existing homes and stabilizing prices, indicate the housing slump may be ending. Last month’s pace was the highest in 10 months. The Charlotte Chamber recently reported that expanding and new businesses have created 7,316 jobs in Mecklenburg County in the first half of the year, a 15 percent increase from the corresponding period last year. For the same period, business investment among the 446 new and expanding firms fell sharply to $564 million from $1.53 billion, a 66% decrease. The aggregate space requirements of new and expanded operations dropped to 6.7 million square feet from 16.6 million in the first half of 2008. business news: Research Grants Bolster UNC Charlotte's Center for Real Estate - 03/07/07 10:43 AM
Funds to support practical regional development strategies The Center for Real Estate at The University of North Carolina at Charlotte has received grants to fund two research projects aimed toward streamlining the Charlotte region's planning and development. The first project, funded by the Crosland Foundation, is titled "Applying Tax Increment Financing (TIF) in the Charlotte Region," which the Center for Real Estate will conduct jointly with the UNC Charlotte Urban Institute. In 2004, North Carolina voters approved an amendment to the state constitution giving local government the ability to issue TIF (termed "self-financing bonds" in North Carolina), for economic development purposes.
