When purchasing small multifamily property, I learned right away that usually you can't even look at the property until you make an offer. 2009 had been the worst year on record for banks with 140 closings, which was almost three times more than the total number of all bank closings for the previous nine years combined.  It was then overtaken by 2010, when closings rose by 12% to a total of 157 banks closed, bringing the two year total (2009 and 2010) to 297 closings, or 84% of all banks closed in the last decade.
