acadiana: Rayne Frog Festival - 05/05/16 02:34 AM
Hop on over to Rayne, Louisiana next weekend for a toad-ally fun and exciting time!
The annual Rayne Frog Festival will be held Wednesday, May 11th through Saturday, May 14th at the Frog Festival Pavilion and Grounds in Rayne.
What does the Frog Festival celebrate, exactly? It all began with the Weill brothers, who in the late 1800s started a lucrative business exporting frog legs to world renowned restaurants from New York to France. On all of their invoices they wrote: "Rayne, Louisiana, Frog Capital of the World".
The frog leg industry experienced a sharp decline in the 1970s, but the people of Rayne were … (0 comments)

acadiana: Eat Lafayette - Hot Dawg Stop - 11/20/15 11:16 AM
As far as fast food goes, hot dogs aren't a typical option.  At least, that's how it used to be.
Hot Dawg Stop made its debut in Youngsville last year and completely changed the game for fast food.  The concept of made-to-order hot dogs was certainly new to Youngsville residents, but according to the amount of business Hot Dawg Stop receives each day, it's the best idea since sliced bread.
"I like to say that we recreated the hot dog," says restaurant owner Bryan Aucoin.  Hot Dawg Stop offers so many different ways to customize your hot dogs, some of which you never … (1 comments)

acadiana: Eat Lafayette - Cafe Vermilionville - 10/09/15 06:57 AM
Cafe Vermilionville is a Lafayette gem.  The local restaurant offers a fine dining experience, serving aesthetically pleasing and delicious cuisine of Cajun and Creole influences in a beautifully decorated atmosphere.
Aside from being a popular eatery, the two-story landmark at 1304 Pinhook Road is quite a historical structure. When it was built, and by whom, no one can say; that information has been lost somewhere in the past.  But it's what we do know about this building that makes it such an integral part of Lafayette's history.
We do know that since it was built, it has served many purposes and has been owned by many … (0 comments)

acadiana: Eat Lafayette - Judice Inn - 09/25/15 04:56 AM
Since 1947, Judice Inn has been one of Lafayette's most popular local restaurants, serving what some call the "best burgers in town".  And I must say, the burgers from Judice Inn are unlike any others I've had in Lafayette.  Each patty is grilled to perfection, each topping freshly prepared the morning it is used.  Cooked with a "secret sauce" to enhance flavor, Judice Inn burgers possess a quality that is unparalleled by any other burger joint in town.
What I find just as enjoyable as the burgers is the restaurant's long interesting history.  After World War II, two brothers Alcide and … (0 comments)

acadiana: Why I Love Acadiana - 07/23/15 02:47 AM
Acadiana covers most of southern Louisiana, although its exact borders have been debatable.  Generally, Acadiana stretches from Calcasieu Parish along the Texas border to Lafourche Parish in the east, reaching up to Evangeline Parish and all the way down to the Gulf of Mexico.  Filled to the brim with history and culture, Acadiana is a wonderful place to call my home.
All residents of Acadiana know just what makes it the best place to live, but if you've never traveled down South, you may not know much about our home, aside from the popular myth that we all have alligators in our backyards (although, this … (0 comments)

acadiana: You might be from Acadiana if... - 04/20/15 01:07 AM
South Louisiana Cajuns (Acadians) are a very unique culture, best known for their food, music and joy of life.

You might be from Acadiana if….
Watching wild kingdom it inspires you to write a cook book.
You take a bite out of 5 alarm chili and reach for some Tabasco.
You get a daiquiri at the drive through and you know it’s legally not drinking and driving
until you put the straw in.
You gave up Tabasco for Lent.
You were 6 when you … (11 comments)

acadiana: Isaac Disturbs August Home Sales in Lafayette and Acadiana - 09/05/12 11:37 PM
I think we can safely say that most of the numbers are in for August. Needless to point out that Isaac disturbed our home sale numbers. The end of the month is when many sales occur and some of the closings that were scheduled for last week got pushed into September.

And while sales were down for August compared to July, the number of pending sales in the area is still very high. September sales should be good.

At this time last year, there were only 295 home sales pending in Lafayette parish and 513 in all of Acadiana. … (0 comments)
