A great place to visit in Central Calvert County is Battle Creek Cypress Swamp. There is a boardwalk path to walk through the protected watershed area. Also, an interesting indoor center for learning about the local animals in the area. Upstairs in the loft even has real snakes and spiders for those not too afraid to get close. It is a peaceful place to enjoy the history of the location as well as the unspoiled beauty. If you are ever passing through our little county I highly recommend this stop!

This month I was looking for something to do with the kids and stumbled across one of the most fun and free nights the kids and I have ever spent together. The Calvert Marine Museum in Solomons, MD offer the first Friday of every month from 5-8pm free admission. This includes the museum, kids discovery room with new touch tank and fossil hunting, lighthouse tours, and boat rides on the Wm B. Tennison around Solomons Island.
