In their July 2017 edition (which comes out on June 20th), Outside Magazine reveals the winners of "America's Best Towns Ever" list.  To no one's surprise who lives in Reno real estate, our city made it onto this year's list.  In fact, we were named the "Best Low-Key Hideout".  Now, it may seem a little odd that a city that bills itself as "The Biggest Little City in the World" might be considered "low-key".  However, when you read on, you'll quickly understand why this makes perfect sense.

This Saturday, July 16, 2011, the first annual Carson Valley Wings and Willows Festival will be held in Genoa, NV, about an hour's drive south of Reno.  Beginning at 8am and continuing until 8pm, everyone is welcome to tour the wetlands and learn more about the local birds, wildflowers and butterflies.  Throughout the day, there will be free workshops to learn about local Carson Valley wildlife, including bears, bats, butterflies, bees, birds and much more.

Yesterday, there were several workshops at Reno's Earth Day event in Idyllwild Park demonstrating each individual's green power.  Green power is also an issue that the state of Nevada is taking seriously.  The state of Nevada currently holds the most aggressive energy plan for renewable energy in the nation.  Only 26 other states and Washington DC have a renewable portfolio in place.  Nevada's Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) dictates that solar energy will supply at minimum 1% of the state's total energy use.  Nevada Energy is working diligently to go above and beyond the RPS.  NV Energy supplies energy to the Reno-Sparks area … (0 comments)

The Reno City Council recently approved funding for improvements in the city's currently existing recreational facilities.  This includes improvements in tennis courts, public pools, recreation centers, parks and public golf courses that will take place over the next two years.  Most of this money will go towards repairing or replacing roofs, updating plumbing and electrical and upgrading the fire safety systems.  Some of the money in this $7.5 million package is earmarked for making more noticeable improvements to users, such as improving the exterior as well as making the interiors more comfortable and aesthetically pleasing.  The council is still working toward … (0 comments)
