big canoe ga: Big Canoe at 8 am - 02/03/12 02:54 PM
3 days a week I go to a 7 am class in the fitness center in Big Canoe. In the winter it is dark on the way there. But coming back at 8 am it gets pretty crossing the dam over lake Petit and watching the day start.
The sun in ths pictue is just coming up over lake Petit. The lake is 95 acres and just clean and beautiful.
When one turns around you can see the sun reflecting on the mountains. Now it is winter here but can you see any homes? They are there. Big Canoe does … (4 comments)

This past Saturday was our Big Canoe Oktoberfest. People come from all around to have a great time. I worked part time in the Fire Department booth but mainly walked around and saw all my friends and neighbors.
The big text are for all the folks eating great German food and maybe having a beer or two. On the left were the food vendors and on the right all the exhibitors. As you can see the event was pretty crowded. We Big Canoers love a party. In the back there were fun things for kids to do.

I have been following the Greek debt issue for a while. You may say who cares. Well folks who own stock care some as Wall street seems sensitive to the issue. But other than that who cares?
Well aside from feeling sorry for the Greek people what's the big deal ? The problem is the ripple effect this could have. If Greece defaults in a disorderly way it may cause the European banks to have problems. It may also mean that other countries that are having problems will default because nobody will lend it them. The 31st Georgia Marble festival will be held in Jasper Georgia on Oct 1 and 2. Jasper is known as the Marble Capital of Georgia and also as the First Mountain City. This is because today Marble is still mined here. Georgia Marble can be found all over the world and if you have marble in your home chances are it came from Jasper.

The Big Canoe , volunteer fire department is holding its annual fundraiser. This years theme is Western. If you are in or near Big Canoe on November 3rd Tickets are 75 each. Food and 2 drinks are included. It is a Casino night and in the end prizes will be drawn for.
This year we are trying to raise enough money to buy a "jaws of life" This is a very important tool used a lot on sometimes slippery, curvy mountains roads.

I work with in the Volunteer fire department here in Big Canoe. We have recently been reviewed and received a rating of 4 from ISO. Look back 23 years and our rating was 7. (The lower the number the better). What this means to home owners in Big Canoe is over a 30 percent savings on home owners insurance over the last 3 years.

The Terraces season ended last Saturday night in Big Canoe. This summer we had 9 concerts and each one of them was fun and different. We ended the season in this great open air venue with The Atlanta Dixie Land Band. We had rock and roll, a mini symphony, Banks and Shane, and a host of different musicians and music. But now the Theater is empty.

I got a call today which reminded me of something I blogged about a while ago and it needs review.
A very nice lady and I talked today and she asked about a property , "Is it a short Sale?" Now that is the wrong question. It could be right if you are in a hurry to buy. This was not the case. Buyers are watching HGTV and listening to the news. They want to know if the property is a short sale, or a foreclosure, or a corporate transfer. The big banks and finance houses wounded housing. We all know this. But the real tragedy is that they continue to hurt housing.
Bank of America is now talking about their losses in housing. Consider this. First they do not modify enough loans. And even if you are in the middle of a modification with a bank there is no guarantee that the foreclosure arm of the bank will stop and not take your house.

Maybe 2 years ago the Fed stopped buying Treasuries. The run up to the stoppage was that interest rates were going to go up. They were going to go up BIG time. Well the Fed stopped and interest rates went down. In fact at a meeting with a gent from the Fed he said they( the Fed) was as surprised as anybody that rates went down.

The third event in the Big Canoe Terraces concert series was another great success. The featured group for this concert was the Live Bait Band. They are a Jimmy Buffet tribute band. They played Buffet, Reggae, and a great selection of oldies.
The band was dressed for the beach. They had the crowd doing the shark as you can see in the photo here.
