Has the American Dream of home ownership shifted to renting ? This is the question I ask today. Why are more and more folks renting today?
The Renting argument
1 There are credit issues. Many were caught in the mortgage crunch and have a foreclosure or a short sale they are working off. It may still be a couple of years before they can buy. And the bad taste of their prior experience may turn them off to buying again

It must be Spring in Big Canoe as well as in our North Georgia Mountains. The leaves are out on the trees and there are great signs of life every where.

Mountain Laurel is really pretty. This year it bloomed a bit early. The flowers are delicate and long lasting. The beauty of this woody plant is that is grows here wild. The Bear on the Square Festival in Dahlonga Georgia is a great kick off to the Spring / Summer season in our North Georgia Mountains. The festival is a free event featuring musicians roam all over our Mountains

I just spent 2 days at the great RETSO event in Atlanta. There were folks there from as far away as Australia !!! They handed out stickers with a hand and a five on them for all the folks who had been to every RETSO since it started. I was one of the folks that was proud to have a 5 sticker . I learned a ton of stuff that I think will be great for my business. I always come away with at least 1 great idea to implement. This year there were 3

The old Fashioned Barber shop in Jasper Georgia has won a "Keep Pickens Beautiful and Green" award.
The shop features the large chairs as well as coffee and donuts for those who are waiting to get a Hair cut. Since opening in the last year and 1/2 the shop has gone from 2 to 3 to 4 hair cutting pro's

For a couple of days this weekend we were in the Florida Panhandle. We were visiting son Joe who is in the Navy. He is soon to be shipped out west so we thought it would be a good time to visit. I love the North Georgia mountains and their beauty. However there is something to be said for the gulf as well. The picture below was taken at Fort Barracas. It over looks the gulf. Many Home owner today look for places to store their important papers. Many home Owners wear a Belt. What I mean by that is they go out and buy a safe and use it to store papers in. They look at the safes rating and decide that it is fire proof and in case of a fire their important papers will be saved. But they need to where suspenders too!

In my opinion government is not this evil thing trying to run our lives. However they do stuff that sometimes has unintended consequences for our business.
1 The law was passed about appraisals. Seemed like a good thing. Make the process an arms length transaction so there would be no collusion between banks ,real estate folks, sellers , and appraisers. but there is that pesky unintended consequence. We now have appraisers that do not know the area and under appraise homes. As if we needed this added stone being thrown at our market

Jasper Georgia is a great place to live and work. There are many homes for sale. However in the case below I think the tree house home of this lovely couple is not for sale.

We are doing a bathroom renovation. It is more than just cosmetic stuff. Now on HGTV you see they get in done in 2 days. In our case, as well as most cases it take 2-3 weeks. So it is not as easy or as fast as it is on TV. The same goes for buying or selling a home. The stager comes in and wham 100 buyers come to the open house and in a day they have a contract.
