Like Father - Like Sons! (and I like them ALL!) - 02/16/09 11:22 PM
First it was Stephen. Then Shawn got into the act.  And finally, Stephen Jr. - The Covey family has written some of the best books for personal growth and development for all of our generations!
"The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People" by Stephen Covey
A true classic for the past 15 years.  Stephen Covey guides us with the principles of fairness, integrity, honesty, and human dignity as he brings focus to the habits that breed true success.  More than one of these 7 habits are included in the Keller Williams "Wi4C2TS" belief system.  If you've read the book, you know which ones and if you … (3 comments)

Looking Ahead - Real Estate in the GTA - 02/15/09 11:52 PM
2008 was a year of change and challenge for real estate in the Greater Toronto Area, as it was with most sectors of the economy. The average price increased fairly substantially in the Spring, as it does in most years, but stalled and fell back as we moved into the Autumn market. (Yes. I purposely avoided using the term "Fall" market.)
Where are we heading? That's a great question that no one can answer with any certainty While the average price fell in October, it rebounded in November (see graph on reverse). However, the total number of sales for the month … (2 comments)

When is a Great Deal - NOT!!! - 02/15/09 11:02 PM
It started with an email that I received last fall.  I hadn't yet done my usual calendar order through the company that I normally get them from. This email offered a much better price - fully 30 to 35% per cent less for a good quality calendar. The product was certainly of at least equal quality to that which I normally send out.  No, the quality of the product itself wasn't the problem.  In fact, the promised service and delivery was superior to the company I usually order from.  That was what eventually convinced me to change and order these calendars … (2 comments)

And Now for Something ... Completely Different! - 02/15/09 07:35 PM

(with apologies to Monty Python)  Rather than the usual, "you have to change and do this and develop that", Marshall Goldsmith shows us that it's not what you should start doing, but what you should STOP doing to move to the next level.  This is one of the most refreshing books on leadership that I have read in a long time.  Working on the concept that change can indeed be difficult because it often means having to completely reverse habits and old ways, Marshall points out how just stopping these same habits is much easier and often all you need to do … (1 comments)

Top 10 Book Review - "Words That Work" Dr. Frank Luntz - 02/14/09 11:23 PM

This book is one of those "sleepers" that I just happened to notice at Costco and was fortunate enough to pick up.  Frank Luntz is a "wordsmith extraordinaire".  A long-time political speechwriter, he has influenced the political and promotional vocabulary of our entire generation.  It is amazing to read of the transformation of such terms as "drilling for oil" to the current "exploring for energy'.
Frank researches the different ways that you can say the same thing and yet get an entirely different response.  For example, when asked if illegal immigrants "should be given emergency medical coverage", a sizable majority of … (5 comments)

Introducing two of my best friends to the AR community! - 02/08/09 07:42 PM
It's nice when you get home after a long, hard day to feel welcomed.  No matter what time of the day or night I'm tapping away at the 'puter they're usually at my side (especially if I have any munchies with me!)
Now, in this picture, they both look like angels ...

But if we look at unscripted pics, the truth is revealed ....

No.  His name is Bailey, not Imelda.

Despite the soft, lovey-dovey treatment that my son used on this pic, you can still see the demonic glow in Sydney's eyes?
Actually, they are both fantastic … (4 comments)

Positive, Portable "PEE" via PEZ - 02/07/09 07:44 PM

If you managed to see my previous post about disrupting "PEE", I mentioned that I just had to continue milking my idea, so here is where it went:
I went to the local supermarket and wiped out their supply of PEZ candy dispensers.  I got all different types.  At the "All Associates Meeting" (sales meeting) the afternoon following the "Positive Energy Zone" signs being placed around the various areas of the office, I had each associate pick their favourite (favorite for my American friends) character.  Then I explained that the little known "fact" was that PEZ is an acronym for "Positive Energy … (4 comments)

Are You, or Someone You Know - Disrupting the "PEE"? - 02/07/09 06:08 PM
Recently, I was heading home from the office and found myself feeling negative.  As I considered and analyzed my negative frame of mind, it occured to me - that it WASN'T MINE!
A couple of associates in the office had been having challenges as we all do from time to time, but the energy that was eminating from them was infecting the whole office.  It's not that they were intentionally trying to make everyone's life miserable, but it's like a virus!  One negative person can contaminate dozens of others in no time at all.
While I drove home I came up … (3 comments)
