The Forest Lakes market remains virtually unchanged in the past week. Information from our local CAAR Charlottesville Area Association of Realtors MLS indicates that out of  approximately 1,400 homes in the Forest Lakes neighborhood there are just 24 homes for sale, only 3 of which are deemed distressed properties, and just a scant few for rent. In the past month there have been 4 Forest Lakes homes go under contract, while in the past three months there have been 23 homes go under contract. The Sotheby’s auction of Patricia Kluge’s collection of furnishings and other possessions from Albemarle House has begun. Admission is the purchase of the $65, 620-page, full-color auction catalogue — reportedly the largest Sotheby’s has ever produced in the United States.

What ever your political view the fact is that the government has played a large role in housing recovery. The government must be doing something right: pending home sales were 22.4 percent higher in April than the same month last year. And now the real-estate lobby has asked Congress to extend the amount of time that those potential home buyers, who have qualified for tax credit, have to complete their transactions. Three House Democrats introduced legislation this week that would guarantee $15 billion in construction loans.
