assessment: On-Line Assessments (not Appraisals!) - 01/26/09 03:54 PM

I just checked and our Albemarle County Assessments are on-line for 2009...

What is your home worth? Many people feel that their homes are worth at least what these are assessed at by the county assessor's office. Keep in mind that this number is used to generate taxes and is also generated based on the prior year.

Do not confuse an assessment with an appraisal. You should also be aware that a real estate agent or broker can not give you an appraisal on your home.

Recently I was asked for my comments about Assessments in Charlottesville. These question came from Scott Weaver who writes for a local paper, "The Cville Weekly".
Well we had a nice discussion on the phone and I was as open an honest as I could be about our current assessments.
I somewhat jokingly said:
"if somebody were to offer me the assessed value for my personal residence today, I'd have a contract in their hand in 15 minutes"
You see our assessments in January do not reflect the recent trend of home prices. It seems that prices are stable buy we pulled back … (24 comments)
