charles mcdonald: Where is Charles? - 05/10/10 04:58 PM
You may have noticed an uncharacteristic  lack of blogging on my part over the last week ... there is a good reason for that.
I am dictating this post for my wife to type from my hospital bed at Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville Virginia, where I am recovering from an unexpected surgery.
Last Monday  in the middle of the night (of course) my wife rushed me to the emergency room with intense abdominal pains and it was soon  discovered that surgery was in in the cards.
Long story short I am currently enjoying a diet of ice chips. … (51 comments)

charles mcdonald: Charles, where are you? - 05/23/09 07:28 AM

I have received 2 messages this past week asking this question.
Well the simple truth is that My group of agents and I are spending so much time with clients that blogging has taken a back seat.
I hope to fit more time in soon, but I am really not complaining.
You see, I get to meet some wonderful people and showing Charlottesville Real Estate is always a pleasure.
By the way, I love the messages, it tells me you are reading!!!
see you soon

charles mcdonald: Santa Claus (RE) Rally? - 12/17/08 07:36 AM
It seems that Buyers are finally getting great deals!!!
Our Charlottesville Real Estate Group is busy with listings and "buyers" pushing into the end of the year... I am sure your market is getting busier too...
Is the the Santa Claus Rally? (Real Estate Rally)   I am not sure but with the Fed dropping rates to near Zero, when is a better time to be a buyer? Surly it was not time to buy 2 years ago...(hindsight is great)...
Personally I am out looking for another investment property in our Charlottesville market. If you are willing to hold an … (17 comments)

charles mcdonald: A room with a view - Part 1 and 2 - Charlottesville VA - 08/19/08 02:04 PM
We have started a new project (building an outdoor room), using a local builder, and just like with building a home in Charlottesville, there are many steps....
Part 1 is a plan. I started by looking at many of the homes in our market, taking photos, selecting materials and even drawing up the plans myself.
Well we are off to the races and the progress is going along nicely.
THE DECK PRIOR TO STARTING
Part 2 is "Demolition" you see our old deck was made of pressure treated material and stained several times. Now it looked ok, but I was tired … (13 comments)

charles mcdonald: RE/MAX - now I am speechless... - 01/06/08 08:44 AM

Since I joined RE/MAX Assured Properties last week (yes, last week) I have gotten so many calls, emails and even a nice hand written note congratulating me on the move and wishing me great success.
I am overwhelmed at the flood of compliments about RE/MAX and specifically the office I choose to work with. There is an obvious love for this organization that I was not aware of when I was working with a different company.
I wanted to share one email that was sent to me  (I have not put the agents name in as I do not want to embarrass … (39 comments)

charles mcdonald: Be The FACE in a CROWD! - 11/26/07 01:25 PM
I work for a large firm of over 300 agents in the Charlottesville Area and every quarter the give an award to the top producers. The main thing is that they put the following ad in a major publication.
Below are the 25 agents that they picked and "yours truly" is one of them. Take a look at these photos and you will see some cute girls, glamour shots, studio pictures, one guy holding a piece of wood and a few that need updating. One of these stands out among them all, can you guess who and why????
Well all of these agents are … (43 comments)

charles mcdonald: "New Urbanism" what is it? - 10/09/07 04:12 PM

This is a new approach to community living and there are several areas on the cutting edge.

Old Trail is one such area. Located just outside of Charlottesville Virginia along the Blue Ridge Mountains in the small town of Crozet. This is just a wonderful area.

Old Trail Village is a mix of townhomes, signal family homes, shops and golf!
It is still in development and is very exciting.

This "new urbanism, is a life changing idea (from the past) coming back into fad. Walk to the store, less cars, less smog a slower pace of life. There … (16 comments)

charles mcdonald: Why Charlottesville? - 09/06/07 07:47 PM
WHY CHARLOTTESVILLE?
Charlottesville Virginia is located just east of the Blue Ridge mountains in central Virginia. With incredible mountain views, about 45 minutes to skiing in Wintergreen and just a few hours to the eastern seaboard.
We are located where Thomas Jefferson decided to build his home, Monticello, a must see when touring Charlottesville. The University of Virginia, founded in 1819 by Jefferson is in the heart of Charlottesville. Ex-presidents, Madison and Monroe also made their homes nearby.
The city of Charlottesville has a population of approximately 40 thousand which is why we have the feel of a small town. However, we … (6 comments)
