My kids are very excited that School is Closed due to weather. This extended their Christmas Vacation (no reference to the movie) by 2 days and it is a great time for some quality family time! First of all let me say that you are on the right track. When you are looking to relocate to any area, schools should be a major part of the decision. Some clients will say to me that schools do not matter because they either have no kids or their kids are grown. My response is the same. Schools matter because they drive property values. When you are buying a new home the schools are one of the most important decisions. They say "Location, Location, Location" but the truth is that location is usually based on schools!
When discussing schools agents need to keep in mind that we can not "steer" you to or from a school. What we can do is be sure you are armed with enough information to make an "educated" decision!

It seems like my agent is dancing around my questions. Why is this?
Schools - It may sound vague when an agent talks about schools but Buyer and Listing
agents can not "steer" a client to or from a school.
Crime - I hear it all the time, how is the crime in this area. Again an agent will be vague and refer you to a website or the police dept.
Race and Religion - Who lives in this neighborhood. This is a biggie. Think about this for a minute, agents can not give you a cross reference of nationalities … (14 comments)

Education is so important in choosing an area to live. This week I talked to a woman who was looking at Charlottesville Real Estate and our surrounding area.
She has young children and the schools are important to her (as they should be).
