code of ethics: should MLS violations be handled as ethical violations? - 02/11/10 02:58 PM
It is an interesting question and one that our local association is discussing.
Lets start with an example..."Data" Agents are allowed to use our MLS Data (IDX) on their personal websites and blogs but are not allowed to distribute data to any person or entity. Here is the direct Section from our MLS Rules and Regs: SECTION 18.2.6 DATA DISTRIBUTION Except as provided in these rules, an IDX site or a participant or user operating an IDX site may not distribute, provide, or make any portion of the MLS database available to any person or entity. code of ethics: everything you write on a blog site is out there "FOREVER" - 12/15/09 08:00 AM

I just read a post on a popular website by a local agent who was describing a "Current" deal and commission issues asking for opinions.
To me this is so wrong on many levels.
First, your primary job is to protect your clients interests (not your commission)  Second, you have a managing broker and mediation at our local Realtor Association to assist you. This is what they are there for. Third, this can certainly weaken any further negotiations for your clients
Remember: everything you write on a blog site is out there "FOREVER"

When the person is directly or indirectly blogging about another agent, they may be in violation of Standard of Practice 15-2.
Remember the code.... … (40 comments)

I am licenced to Sell Real Estate in the Commonwealth of Virginia but that does not mean, I will sell homes anywhere in Virginia.
I will only sell homes in my area and specifically where I am an expert.

I recently had a conversation with a prospect (who had been looking and working with an agent from a different area, about 3 hours from Charlottesville) who asked me to help them look at some homes in my area. … (99 comments)
