thomas jefferson: Thomas Jefferson and Charlottesville Real Estate - 05/23/11 08:16 AM

Jefferson was born April 13, 1743 at Shadwell in Virginia. Interesting that a man who drafted our Declaration of Independence, became our 3rd President and founded the University of Virginia decided to live in the Charlottesville Real Estate area. Certainly he could have lived anywhere as he traveled overseas as Secretary of State and had intimate knowledge of the United States as he was the one who sent Lewis and Clark to map out the west. Jefferson built his home, Monticello with a few miles of his birth place overlooking Charlottesville and the University of Virginia. When her died on … (11 comments)

thomas jefferson: Thomas Jefferson quote - We need his words of wisdom... - 01/22/11 04:21 PM
With the State of the Union coming on Tuesday I wanted to look back at a few quotes from our founding fathers. Thomas Jefferson lived and had his Charlottesville home on the small mountain here in Charlottesville called Monticello. Who better to read at a time when our nation seems to need words of wisdom?

"A wise and frugal government, which shall leave men free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned – this is the sum of good government.

thomas jefferson: Charlottesville Famous Residents! (a little humor) - 01/05/10 10:28 AM
Charlottesville Famous Residents!
The history of the Charlottesville area will amaze you. Several presidents called this home. Meriwether Lewis, of Lewis and Clark, birth place is about a mile from my home. Of course, Jefferson sent Lewis and Clark from here to the West! Charlottesville has had several famous residents (see below) add to this list, Dave Mathews Band, Sissy Spacek and Jessica Lange. The author, John Grisham calls Charlottesville home and most Virginia football fans would recognize Howie Long who lives in the wonderful Ivy area of Charlottesville VA. USA Today says "Mr. Jefferson would be proud".

thomas jefferson: Thomas Jefferson's Ten Rules (for Real Estate?) - 12/27/09 04:15 PM

Thomas Jefferson has a wonderful list of 10 rules that is above my computer. These same rules can apply to Real Estate today in 2010 or just our daily lives....

thomas jefferson: Sidewalks of History.... - 01/06/09 03:21 PM
When you are walking down a sidewalk do you ever wonder who else has walked there? Below is a photo of a sidewalk I took at the University of Virginia. These walkways were designed by Thomas Jefferson and built by his architects. There have been literally millions of feet on these walkways and many famous people.
Jefferson most likely and even people like Edgar Allen Poe (who attended the University)...

Oh yes and your Charlottesville Real Estate Agent, Charles McDonald has even walked these sidewalks!
Next time you are in a historic area, think about who may have walked where … (7 comments)

thomas jefferson: Garden Walls at UVA - 10/27/08 11:30 AM
You have heard about them and here they are, the Garden Walls at UVA (University of Virginia).
As the plaque say,"these Garden Walls originally designed and built by Thomas Jefferson as part of his architectural plan for the University of Virginia were restored and enclosed gardens planted by the Garden Club of Virginia"

The beauty of these walls is the "serpentine" design!

I hope you get a chance to see these walls, they are a part of our History and a view into creative mind of Thomas Jeffereson!

thomas jefferson: Thomas Jefferson's Monticello - 02/07/08 03:22 PM
When you visit Charlottesville Virginia you are really missing out if you do not see the tour at Monticello.
They have several tours now (house, Gardens and Plantation) and the house tour is the most popular and my personal favorite.
When you are on the front porch at Monticello and you look out over Charlottesville you get a feel for the greatness of Jefferson.

You can see the University of Virginia from his grounds just as he did when it was being built.
The moment you enter you see several of his accomplishments and his inventions. I will not … (24 comments)
