networking: Homesnap - 12/15/14 12:13 AM
A few weeks ago I received an email invite from our local MLS for this program called Homesnap and thought it looked like a great way to market and network with past clients and customers.
Boy was I wrong, I could not have been more wrong.
So far it has high jacked my email contacts list and emailed everyone I have ever emailed in my entire life.  People who have been unlucky enough to confirm that they'd like to keep up with the value in their area now get spammed with email from me.  I am sitting here individually deleting … (46 comments)

networking: How to Get More Listings - 07/07/14 06:24 AM
How to Get More Listings
Have you heard the news?  There’s more buyers than ever looking for their first or next home but there is a huge inventory shortage.  In many cases there are more than 2 buyers competing for the best listings.
How do you find more home sellers?  This can be especially challenging for agents who may not have a lot of connections with homeowners who are ready to sell.  The truth is it may take some hard work, but with persistence it can be done and you could be happy to be on the … (6 comments)

Sharing the Stage with Margaret Rome at Wire

Last night I had the honor of sharing the stage with Margaret Rome as we talked about our careers in real estate, getting started in this crazy business of real estate and how we market our businesses without going broke and of course about Real Estate and investing in real estate.
WIRE is an acronym for Women Investors of Real Estate.  The group was formed about 10 years ago by Dawn Sheehan-Lewis because she saw a need for a group for women in a mostly male dominated area.  Since … (3 comments)

What a Wonderful Day for a Meetup!!
An Activerain Meetup, of course!!
Today a bunch of people, some old friends, some new met at Linwoods Restaurant in Owings Mills to raise money for Cystic Fibrosis Research and to talk about how great ActiveRain is and how it brings people together to share stories and friendship and good food.   The weather could not have been nicer.
An Activerain Meetup in Maryland would not be complete without Margaret Rome.  What a fabulous hostess!!  Margaret arranged for us all to get together today at Linwoods in Owings Mills where we had a private room … (15 comments)

ActiveRain Meetup in Ellicott City, MD
The weather was perfect yesterday for 19 real estate professionals to meet up at Bare Bones Grill and Brewery in Ellicott City yesterday.  Some of us had known each other for years and done deals together, for others it was the first time to put a name to a face we'd only seen on our computers here in ActiveRain.
I had known Brent Kluge, the 203K Loan Expert, for some time because we had done some transactions together, we've talked on the phone but we had never met in person.
Margaret Rome and Martha Brown … (2 comments)

Holiday Party Get Together ActiveRain Style
Today 12 friends came together to celebrate the holidays and to celebrate friendships that would not have occurred except for ActiveRain.  I am sure that some of use would eventually have done transactions together eventually, given the number of years we have all been in the business, but we would not have developed the comraderieship we have had it not been for this great network called ActiveRain.
Thank you Martha Brown from Long and Foster for organizing and bringing us all together before the Christmas holiday.  If you haven't attended an ActiveRain meetup I would … (22 comments)

Your Career in Real Estate - Networking to Build Your Customer Pipeline
No one launches a successful career in real estate by sitting behind a desk, and waiting for the phone to ring. It just doesn't work that way and no matter how long you sit there, it won't work that way. You absolutely have to build a customer pipeline. The terms "pipelines" and "funnels" are commonly used to refer to how many names find their way into your client or customer rolodex or call list.
The first task in building a customer pipeline is to examine and expand upon your existing client … (4 comments)

networking: The Power of Social Networking - 06/09/08 04:31 PM
What is social networking?  It is the connection of communities of people who are interested in similar things, the connecting of people with similar ideas and similar interests according to Wikipedia.
Social networking is vastly under rated, in my opinion.
A few weeks ago I joined a mini group within my quilt guild.  My goal had nothing to do with real estate, but rather, it had to do with meeting with a group of people who had similar interests to myself.  We meet the 1st and 3rd Friday of every month to talk about quilting, share our projects and inspire one … (30 comments)

networking: If It Bleeds it Leads cont'd - 01/23/08 02:40 PM
Yesterday I blogged about reasons for optimism in the real estate industry.  I talked about falling prices and how that is reason for optimism for buyers.
Today I want to talk about how many real estate sales people have gotten out of the business now that the deals are harder to come by.
Have you called an office lately to talk to someone only to be told that Jane Doe is no longer there anymore and she has left the business?  This has happened to me a lot lately, emails are bounced back and phone numbers disconnected.  For those people who … (3 comments)

networking: Creative Networking Opportunities - 01/20/08 07:59 AM
In November 2007 I put together a Thanksgiving Potluck lunch in my office and invited a few people we'd done business with over the year and our agents and their families.  It was very well received and gave people an opportunity to chat over lunch and maybe get to know each other a bit better.  Everyone was so surprised at how well it went they said we should do it again.
Last week we hosted the first New Year's Networking Potluck and opened it up and we had over 40 people attend from different companies, home inspectors, contractors, loan people, home … (1 comments)

networking: Double Timing Halloween - 10/31/07 04:08 AM
Have you ever wondered about a creative way to market yourself to your neighborhood/farm area during Halloween?
I make up goody bags with candy, toys that I get from JoAnn Fabric and Crafts the day before Halloween when they are 90% off, business cards, pens, fridge magnets.  I package them together and staple with my business card and drop them off at every house my son and I go to on our route to trick or treat.  It's a good way to introduce yourself to your neighbors and let them know or remind them that you live in their neighborhood and that … (3 comments)

networking: Changing Face of Financing - 06/02/07 03:40 PM
FHA, FHA 203B, FHA 203K, CDA, LNYW, LNYW+, MMP, VA, Community Communitment, My Community and the list goes on and on.  How do you keep them all straight?
The real estate industry has been changing over the last few months.  Listings are staying on the market longer.  Homes need to be staged and presented or they won't sell.  Buyer's Agents need to be fully versed and extremely knowledgeable about all the different kinds of financing available or be teamed up with a very experienced loan officer who is a genius.  Loan Officers needed to become licensed this year for the first … (3 comments)
