On Friday, May 2 Private First Class Jake Hume of Signal Mountain graduated from Fort Benning's 198th Infantry Brigade joining the less than 49,000 enlisted infantrymen rotating in and out of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. The previous day, a ceremony known as “Turning Blue” took place as America’s newest infantrymen have their famed blue cord pinned onto their Class A uniform by a family member. This March, PFC Hume converted from the reserves to active duty. He has been assigned to "Old Ironsides", the Army's First Armored Division out of El Paso, TX and hopes to return to Fort Benning for Ranger School to become part of the elite and specialized Army Rangers.
Pictured as well is his sister, Specialist Danielle Hume, also of Signal Mountain, TN. She is currently mobilized in Fort Leonard Wood, MO as a medic to work with the Armed Services Blood Program as part of Operation Noble Eagle, a civil support mission augmenting Operation Enduring Freedom. The ASBP collection sites, testing centers and distribution facilities are located throughout the world and are ran through joint efforts of the Army, Navy and Air Force.
Also working for Operation Noble Eagle are PFC and SPC Hume's stepbrothers Sergeant Josh Wishmyer and Senior Airman John Wishmyer, both on assignment in the Air Force at McGuire AFB in North Hanover, NJ. They are part of the 305th Mission Support Group providing vital resources worldwide, including blood products from the ASBP to Iraq and Afghanistan.
Jeff and Patrice Wishmyer of Signal Mountain are the proud parents of all four service members.
