Holiday Aloha from the Waipio Gentry Community! - 11/28/07 05:22 PM
What's happening in Waipio Gentry for the Christmas Holidays?   An event and a message. Well, for one thing, with the Christmas Holidays approaching there is the Annual Christmas Parade sponsored by the Waipio Gentry Community Association and the Lion's Club. Starting at 10:00 am on Saturday, December 8, 2007 so plan on being there! The Parade includes young people, businesses and our Waipio Gentry residents that are representing the core of our Community.
The Aloha. The Spirit. The Heart.
Our children are surely oblivious with their innocence and for them the Holiday's are filled with toys, games and their school breaks. … (9 comments)

Across the Ocean to Paradise: Hawaii Military Relocation - 11/26/07 12:18 PM

Featured article on www.localism.com
Military personnel who have relocated across the Pacific Ocean to Oahu, Hawaii are always astounded at the differences in homes once they arrive here. Okay, let's say stunned instead. I have had many military clients who were so shocked at the size of homes that they had no alternative but to store the majority of their household goods once they arrived because they brought it all. They also had a cultural shock as well with all our diverse cultural and ethnic groups. And the difference in weather conditions? Tropical paradise to say the least.
If it's one thing we all … (32 comments)

Hawaii Warriors Take Championship - 11/25/07 03:12 PM
Football or sports fan I am not although Friday WAS the biggest event at Aloha Stadium since I went to the swap meet two weeks ago :)  It also turned my head around while reading yesterday mornings headlines in the Honolulu Advertiser: Crowd goes wild over Hawaii victory!
Starting a week ago they kept warning us about the traffic that would accompany Black Friday shopping the day after Thanksgiving and the biggest football game ever.
It was the Western Athletic Conference Football Championship with our own Hawaii Warriors against Boise State.

"Traveling the Road of Aloha....The ActiveRain MEETING with Peers" - 11/24/07 02:22 PM
After writing "The Road Less Traveled.....The Aloha" story I knew this story I am writing now would be the sequel. I already had my Friday planned from a couple of weeks ago with Kathy McGraw (fellow ActiveRainer) who flew in to Hawaii on Wednesday from California with her daughter, Corina (another ActiveRainer) and her grandchildren.
I had spoken with Kathy over the last couple of months and I was excited and anticipating her arrival. Finally! I get to meet someone in person who I have "connected" with through ActiveRain.
Linda Bourgault had called me last week to invite me to the scattering of Bruce's ashes … (91 comments)

"The Road Less Traveled.....The Aloha" - 11/23/07 12:44 PM
The "Spirit of Aloha" means a 'sense of caring and kindness to those around me' and "Malama" means stewardship and when applying both of those in business we take care and give of ourselves with unselfishness in regards to human assets. This I wrote back in August 2007: Conducting Business in Hawaii: The "Spirit of Aloha" and "Malama" and again I am taken aback by the what "Aloha" means to me and what it can mean to you.
On the news last night they did a story on "Where's the Aloha?". It got me to thinking about how life has changed in Hawaii. … (58 comments)

Quotes from Jon Washburn .....The Social Hub and ActiveRain - 11/19/07 09:45 AM
My Friday at the office was dragging by slowly and by the afternoon I was looking for things to do when another agent (who knows I'm an ActiveRain member) comes up to me with this Real Estate Executive Magazine and points to a picture, Underneath the picture there is a caption.
Quote:  "There is a fundamental strategic shift that is taking place in online real estate marketing. "Smart marketers no longer focus their online marketing campaigns on building one comprehensive website. Instead, they are working to cast their reach as wide as possible through social networkds and blogs," says ActiveRain's Jon Washburn.

**STARTING OVER**I Got a Brand New Pair of Roller Skates...Where's the Key? - 11/15/07 04:30 PM
Inspired for Diane Aurit's new group Newbies Again my starting over was one thing. Starting over with a whole new career change at my age was a whole completely totally different story too.
Real Estate school was a challenge to begin with. Talk about being intimidated. There were young resiliant information sponges in my class that were retaining everything they read while I literally had to study 24/7 to comprehend and "remember" what I was studying. And I might add in order to remember I had to study the same things over and over again. On top of everything else it was a "foreign" language! … (68 comments)

Success is in the Eye of the Beholder - 11/12/07 10:39 AM
After Active Rain announced that they would not have the moderators (the volunteer members) critiquing our writing anymore, I knew that the new critiquers of our writing would have a different perspective as well. No matter what the "Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder".
I was actually inspired by Bob Stewart's post yesterday morning  Sometimes this place cracks me up, Sometimes it pisses me off  It's all in good blogging etiquette.  In any case, he realized what we go through sometimes and now understands when we are "buying into someone elses kaka" and how we feel.    :)

Supporting Hawaii Businesses: And Getting Out of a Funk! - 11/07/07 06:46 PM
After Torrential Rains, Thunder, Lightning, Floods......... and Snow? Only in Hawaii! the weather started clearing up and I took a picture this morning of my last two orchid blooms that fared the weathered storm. Two died, the rest already bloomed.
I looked at the blooms and thought, "How simple but beautiful".  No matter how positive my spirit is I get caught up in "junk" just like anyone else and need to get out and do something to clear my mind.
Besides, sometimes I just have to listen to some good advice and "stop letting the little things bother me". Ahhh.  Don't Sweat the … (48 comments)

Torrential Rains, Thunder, Lightning, Floods......... and Snow? Only in Hawaii! - 11/06/07 08:41 PM

www.localism.com featured article
Whoa!  Torrential rains, flooding, high surf, lightning and booming thunder! That's the way it was Saturday night on Oahu. Sleeping soundly until BOOM!  And blinding light in our bedroom that startled us awake. The dog's head was under the bed. Okay. She's cool. And my heart is beating because my husband JUMPED at the BOOM!
It was still raining hard on Sunday and because of the storm we didn't get to cut down the junk in mom's valley in the back of her house. Shucks???
I worked in our office all day yesterday and there wasn't much going on in the way … (35 comments)

“Kuleana: Knowing Your Responsiblity” - 11/03/07 12:38 AM
There's a fine line between common sense and KNOWING what I am responsible for.
Kuleana (Koo-lay-ah-nah). basically means "Knowing Your Responsiblity" and used in the context of Leadership.
We all have a responsibility for the preservation and conservation of our land and water. So we abide by the laws set forth by our state.
Previously, I had written Purchasing Hawaii Vacant Land? Ancient Hawaiian Burial Sites and Laws and discussed our laws regarding ancient burial sites and our responsibility to do due diligence if you are considering purchasing vacant land. These laws not only apply to vacant land but property already in use that you may … (31 comments)
