Recapping the 2008 Predictions on ActiveRain - 12/31/08 12:09 PM
Last year our "Official ActiveRain" blog asked us to post our Predictions for 2008 and you can find the post here: Looking for Nostradamus .  For those of you who are unclear who Nostradamus was; he was a seer who first published his predictions in 1555.
Well, many of the ActiveRain members whipped up some great predictions for 2008 and while reading many recaps of whose came the closest I have to admit that Matt Heaton's (Timu Corp - CEO, ActiveRain - Co-founder)  2008 Market and Economic Predictions - RESULTS  and Lenn Harley's PREDICTIONS FOR 2008 - LOOKING BACK. SOMETIMES YOU WISH YOU HAD … (18 comments)

Appreciation from a Hawaii Military Relocation Client - 12/31/08 12:07 AM

It's remarkable that such a small token of appreciation will make someone's day a little brighter, give them a reason to smile once more and lift their heart and soul to renewed heights. Those little tokens of appreciation come in the form of a comment, a heartfelt notation in a card or maybe even a lengthy speech that will give another wings to soar to heights they've not been to before.
Everyone loves to be appreciated and acknowledged for something they have done for another. That's not to say that there is anything material expected in return. Just a thank you will do just fine, thank you.

Tanaka of Tokyo - Japanese Steak & Seafood House - 12/27/08 02:02 PM

Yesterday we decided to head over to Ala Moana Shopping Center and eat lunch at Tanaka of Tokyo -Japanese Steak & Seafood House. With a wide variety of steak and seafood dishes on the menu to choose from each dish is prepared by a skilled Master Teppan-Yaki (teppan meaning iron griddle and yaki meaning fried or broiled) chef.
The seating is situated around the iron griddle with the chef in the middle preparing the food with an entertaining show of flying spatulas and knives. With the chef cracking us up with jokes and flinging shrimp tails into his hat and … (10 comments)

Well, for those that know me, you KNOW that Shadow is included on everything....including Christmas and her presents.
One of them was a singing stocking from the "Big Dog Store" and it was singing Deck the Halls with a bark bark woof woof... (it's so faint in the background and you'll see why)
Hope you all are having a great day...we're leaving shortly for moms....prime rib in tow (yes, Gary made it lol)

Most Embarrassing Moment of 2008 - 12/24/08 08:18 PM
Come on guys! Let's go to lunch! My Treat! After signing at escrow yesterday in Downtown Honolulu my clients, the Loan Officer and I walked two city blocks to the restaurant. Now, I would not have known this restaurant was there if the Loan Officer didn't point it out. It was right off the sidewalk and in an alley. A quaint Chinese restaurant and boy was the food good! (darn, forgot to whip out the camera)
Anyway, with Sweet Sour Chicken, Kung Pao Chicken, Beef Broccoli and Shrimp Lo Mein it was definitely a tasty lunch!
The bill comes and I … (40 comments)

I THINK I Made a BooBoo on Facebook - 12/23/08 11:05 AM

~~~
I had disabled my Facebook account back in April and a couple of weeks ago I enabled my account again. I've been having fun connecting with others I haven't seen for awhile on ActiveRain or making new friends.
I was playing around on it the other day and it took me somewhere else (another page...site?) and it asked for my phone number. I declined and went back to other 'fun stuff' to do.Two days ago it brought me back to the same thing. The IQ test and do I want to find out what my score was? I plugged … (29 comments)
Hawaii Relocation Clients DO Read MY ActiveRain Blog - 12/21/08 11:26 PM
I've been a member of ActiveRain since 2007 and I started the year of 2008 wondering if My ActiveRain Blog would be read by more consumers and Hawaii Relocation clients. During the first half of the year I had two clients who contacted me after reading My ActiveRain Blog inquiring about purchasing their first condo and single family home.
Right off the bat I asked them if they found me through My ActiveRain Blog and they said they read a story about Mililani Condos and Hawaii VA Loans.
These clients contributed to a successful year for me and all because of my ActiveRain Blogging.  Since then I … (41 comments)
Pacific Medical Healthcare & Supply- A SUPERSTORE - 12/20/08 12:20 PM
This past Tuesday I took mom to Pacific Medical Healthcare & Supply so she could get her elasticized stocking to support her leg from ankle to knee. Months ago she injured her leg on the golf course and landed in the hospital with a severed artery. Anyway, she's healed and back to golfing but her leg still gives her problems. (Keep in mind that mom will be 81 years old come January and she is still working at a Country Club four days a week and goes golfing every Monday!)
I love mom.
When we got there I thought it was … (21 comments)
Holiday Acceptance CONTEST WINNERS! (ActiveRain Community Support) - 12/18/08 11:52 PM
Not everyone may celebrate the Christmas and New Year's Holidays although it was my sincere wish for all of you to gain insight, some inspiration and whole lot of Holiday Acceptance through this contest and all of the entries.  As the New Year of 2009 approaches we will bring prosperity and happiness to others and ourselves because WE  create our joy and happiness.
Acceptance. Understanding acceptance starts with awareness, identifying the need through our gut feeling that it's time to move on from a situation or circumstance that is negative or uncomfortable.  Often times it becomes "The Art of Letting Go" … (60 comments)
Happy Holidays from Shadow! - 12/18/08 11:09 AM
First of all, Shadow, our English Cocker Spaniel asked me to wish all of you ActiveRain members a Happy Holiday Season! She went to the beauty shop yesterday and got all nice and pretty with red Christmas bows too! She had to take a couple of pictures because she 'wasn't quite ready and finally told me to use this shot for you all. Isn't she just the Princess?
Second, she is not being too transparent here and I managed to catch a "She's on Flip Video" moment so you all can see really see Shadow for who she is. (hope … (34 comments)
Respect Your Fellow ActiveRain Member - Follow the ActiveRain Guidelines - 12/17/08 11:39 AM
Approximately about a week ago I received a phone call from an ActiveRain Member. I receive many phone calls from members who have a question, need help, just want to put a voice with my name or just want to hear me say WooHoo! (okay, that woohoo part isn't true...only William Johnson does that lol!)
This particular phone call was different. The conversation started out with a polite introduction (name and area) and then turned into a 'I would like to add you to my list of referrals". ActiveRain IS a place to network with peers in the Real Estate industry but … (27 comments)
Setting Personal Boundaries - The Key is Communication - 12/17/08 11:11 AM
So often we are sucked into the mindset that "giving is always a good thing". Wouldn't it depend on the reasons we keep giving? Within any healthy relationship there is always a sense of a give and take for any situation. Finances, home, career, family and intimacy all desire a healthy form of discussion and communication in order to have positive results.
Boundaries are the emotional and physical space between you and someone else.
When one fails to recognize that they are giving too much of themselves and disregarding their own personal happiness then something is clearly wrong and the need for reevaluation of our … (48 comments)
Aggressive, Pushy or a Flat Out Pain in the ...... ?? - 12/15/08 07:46 PM
That first meeting! We usually have some insight regarding the attitude of a person at that very first meeting. It's that first impression that really stands out in ones mind.
Let's say we 'meet' a peer online and for that first impressionwe get is an opinionated mindset and a bunch of !!!! (yelling) with a judgmental view. Let's say we meet the lady in line at the cashier checkout in a grocery store and all they're doing is nagging and ranting about who knows what.
Well, sometimes we HAVE to be judgemental on our end in picking and choosing what kind of friends … (74 comments)
Century 21 Liberty Homes: The Spirit of Aloha Annual Christmas Party 2008! - 12/13/08 09:54 PM
Every year Century 21 Liberty Homes has their annual Christmas party at Honolulu Country Club.
Even though it hasn't been the most wonderful year for sales Century 21 Liberty Homes survived and we proved last night....we still have the spirit of aloha to carry on into 2009!
This year the agenda was a little different and for that I am grateful. We had loads of fun and a wonderful buffet and just looking around the room you could see that the agents and their family & friends were just grateful to share this event with.
Hawaiian Islands Storm Affects EVERYONE - 12/12/08 03:57 PM
The storm that moved into our Hawaiian Islands yesterday affected everyone.
My dog Shadow kept hiding under my desk and trying to paw my arm in hopes I would cradle her in my lap. She was afraid.
Usually, my dog would body bash the security screen door when someone knocked. (Territorial little bugger)
Not this time. The horrendous pounding from the downpour and wind of up to 50mph were enough to scare me as well.
The hour long news special last night showed the devestation. Our island of Oahu (Honolulu County) had up to waist high water in some areas damaging roads (that … (29 comments)
"Torrential Thursday" in Hawaii! - 12/11/08 04:29 PM
We awoke at 4:30am to banging on the window. Yup, the storm had indeed arrived!
At 5:30 this morning I was showered and dressed...ready to start my day.
I love mornings....no matter what the weather. Right.
Flooding, torrential rain, winds up to 50mph in some places and a couple of broken poincetta plants so far. Sob.
These are the kinds of days where I should stay in ...cozy up to my blog ...with a cup of hot chocolate in one hand and tapping on the keyboard with the other :)
But...nooooo.  It's off to the office as soon as … (19 comments)
ActiveRain Blogging is Serious Stuff - 12/10/08 01:59 PM
For those of you who have a spouse that doesn't blog, who doesn't Twitter or get in on the Linked In action you most likely struggle with the excuses to your spouse of: WHY you MUST blog. The reasoning behind those hours of writing and commenting pays off when your spouse sees the emails and phone calls come in. When the closed transactions and income come in.
It takes time, effort, consistency and determination to MAKE this blogging thing work.
My husband laughed at me back when I first joined ActiveRain in March of 2007. Over time he became a … (65 comments)
Loco Moco Drive Inn in Waipio Gentry: Local Style Grinds! - 12/09/08 10:46 AM
A popular drive inn with plate lunches and local style grinds is the Loco Moco Drive Inn located in the Waipio Gentry Shopping Center (94-800 Ukee Street) and they have a variety of meals and an array of side dishes on their menu to order from. From "plate lunches" to burgers to saimin soup you will definitely have to ponder for a few minutes before deciding.
For those of you that are unfamililar with what a "plate lunch" is, we classify it as a 'take out lunch - or dinner on a plate to go'. The oh so famous plate lunches usually come with an 'entree' such … (14 comments)
Speechless Sunday: Sunrise in ALL It's Glory - 12/07/08 12:43 PM
I wonder if Speechless Sunday is meant for the picture to leave us all in awe....leave us speechless? How about Wordless Wednesday? I definitely think that one was left for us to have no words.
Who Am I? - 12/05/08 10:46 AM
Our own Rich Jacobson (ActiveRain Community Builder) wrote Establishing an Internet Presence: "Are You Creating a 'False Front?" and it got me thinking about the profile pictures and the internet presence we create online.
There are professionals online that use signs, smiley faces, a picture of their dog or whatever for their profile pictures.
To each his own.
I have always believed that I should have some transparency as to who I am through my writing. I write as if the reader is walking along side of me and give information the same way.
So I thought you folks may gain … (65 comments)
Are You IN the Middle of a Rip Current? - 12/03/08 09:59 PM
After reading the warning sign and taking precautions by standing back a few feet from the warning tape I looked up to see big breaking waves on the shore and the whitewater rushing back out to see. Rip currents are DANGEROUS. The powerful, channeled currents of seawater flowing away from the shoreline, through the surf and past the breaking waves will take you out to sea quicker than you can bat an eyelash.
There is no doubt that conditions change and we need to take heed to the warning signs.
The housing market and real estate industry is constantly … (32 comments)
Across the Still Waters (A View) - 12/02/08 11:51 PM
 A vision of the clear glassy water
Then a faint whisper of wind
To push a ripple towards me
And to take my breath away.
A fleeting thought passes,
As if light feathered steps
Could glide across this still water
To the patiently waiting vessel
And sail into the horizon
On a cool December day.
NOTE:   The above picture was taken off the side of the road on Kaneohe Bay Drive this past Sunday. We were driving around a turn and this scene erupted in front of us to stop us in our journey. The peaceful view just gave me … (23 comments)
A Talented Artist: Ron Artis (Art.....Is) - 12/01/08 10:43 AM
While driving to and along the North Shore of Oahu this past Saturday and Sunday I started noticing murals on buildings. I snapped the one above in hopes I could find out more about this talented artist who signed the murals as Ron Artis.
Ron Artis' website at www.ronartis.com says he is a disabled vet who will always give the best to his country.
