The Ewa (pronounced with a short e and va) area on the island of Oahu was a highly populated in the late 1800's and early 1900's because of the sugar cane industry. The 'Ewa Mill" was the main center for employment and they also set up residential villages but has long since closed. The Ewa Gentry Community is located on the Southeastern shore of the Island of Oahu (Honolulu County) and right before old Ewa Beach town. Developers have been building homes in the Ewa Gentry area since the 1990's and they are still building to this day.
