hawaii: The Wonder of ...... - 04/19/09 03:41 PM

Yesterday, I went outside in my little fenced in courtyard to water my plants and tend to my little garden. LO AND BEHOLD! One of my orchids bloomed and had been obscure from sight...hiding behind another for who knows...possibly a day or two? I immediately scooped it up and rushed it inside the house to show Gary...and Shadow (lol...she really is interested in all we do) and snap the shot of a once a year bloom.

With soft form and shape
Bloom colors spoke in volumes
A whisper ... lest be late
The wonder of floral hue

hawaii: Have You Been Lei'd Today? - 05/01/08 11:29 AM

May 1st of each year is "May Day" in Hawaii. The first May day was held on May 01, 1928 to commemorate a celebration of the making and giving of the lei (flower necklace).
A piece of Hawaii Information and Hawaii History: A poet/writer Don Blanding wrote in a local paper of his suggestion to commemorate the celebration of making and giving lei's. He also is credited with throwing the lei overboard the ship....if it returned ...so would you. Fellow Writer Grace Tower Warren came up with the idea of a May first celebration for this very suggestion. She is also … (33 comments)

hawaii: North Shore Hawaii Skydiving (Video) - 04/30/08 11:20 AM

On the same day of The Kite Surfers - Mokuleia Beach on the North Shore of Oahu we stopped by Dillingham Airfield on the North Shore of Oahu (Honolulu County) to see if there were any skydivers or sailplanes taking off or landing.
Dillingham Airfield was fully utilized during World War II. Over the years it was an Army Air Field and an Air Force Air Field and finally closed but used for civil use in the 1970's.
In a joint agreement with the military and the State of Hawaii it continued civil use and in the late 1990's until present there are … (13 comments)

hawaii: What Kind of Legacy Will You Leave Behind? - 07/10/07 12:09 AM
What is your legacy? It's the footprints of our lives that we leave behind. No matter what profession, industry or company I am working for I want to leave behind a good impression; a great legacy. In my personal life with family and friends it is the same. I would love to leave a nice legacy behind so I am remembered in a good way. Gee, I wonder why it is not advisable to leave a "bad taste" in another's mouth and subsequently burn the bridges, so to speak. If it really has come to that point it has become a situation of moral failure.
When I die NO ONE is … (109 comments)

There seems to be a story for every piece of land in Hawaii so let's start with Kaena Point (picture left taken from Sharks Cove) on the island of Oahu. Travel to Kaena Point from the North Shore and past Mokuleia; but alas! There is no thorough fare from this point to the other side except for a small pathway which can only be crossed by foot. (Unless you want to take a chance and fall of the cliff -this pathway is the only way around) The other … (39 comments)
