hawaii businesses: It Takes So Little to Give So Much - 07/29/11 12:39 AM
It was suggested to me that I could use a plastic cupcake container to start seedlings for a flower garden.  I had this grandiose idea that I would be able to start a beautiful garden (rather a potted area of color) for all to enjoy.
I picked up my daughter and we went to Walmart to start looking at the packaged seeds.  My daughter reminded me that I always “KILL” flowers and suggested I purchase a few of the annual flowers @ 73 cents each. She was matter of fact and said that the seeds (in my case) may not even … (19 comments)

hawaii businesses: Businesses Helping Businesses in Hawaii | Shobu’s Refrigeration and Air Conditioning - 03/02/11 03:42 PM
During a VA transaction for a foreclosure we hit a bump. The appraiser decided to put in the report that the hole in the screen door needed to be repaired and the central air conditioning needed to be repaired BEFORE closing.
It just does not seem fair for the buyer to put out more money before the transaction is approved by VA and before the transaction is recorded.  When there is a notation on the appraisal report VA will not submit an NOV (notice of value) to the lender UNTIL the repairs are complete. Most of the time they will need … (9 comments)

hawaii businesses: Fabric Mart in Aiea | Hawaiian Print Material At Wholesale/Discount Prices! - 02/23/10 10:50 PM

After receiving a request from a friend to check around for scarves with Hawaiian print material and preferably with soft colors and soft material, I went on the hunt.  Hmm...looking online and in local stores it was a whopping $30-$60 for A (one) scarf. I needed to find a BUNCH of scarves or else material that one could hem to make scarves and get them to her asap lest she be unable to be 'stylin'".
Ah...one material section in a local department store sufficed for a few picks and then I remembered FABRIC MART in Aiea!  I planned to go this morning after setting a few appointments and I finally got … (22 comments)

hawaii businesses: Chinese New Year 2010 | Honolulu Hawaii Chinatown - 01/24/10 01:47 PM
It's Chinese New Year and the Year of the Tiger in 2010.  Chinese New Year is one of the most important holidays for traditional Chinese.  All the festivities begin on during the first month and continue throughout the month until Chinese New Year's Day. This year is very special as Chinese New Year's day falls on February 14, 2010 which is also Valentine's Day and making it an especially auspicious day to celebrate in the West.

In Honolulu, Hawaii our downtown Chinatown has been celebrating with their festivities over the last couple of weekends. We finally got down to the … (49 comments)

hawaii businesses: ALL THINGS REAL ESTATE! - 10/18/09 01:29 PM
Some may tend to believe that Real Estate talk means only short sales, buyers, sellers, loans and so forth. I'm a Real Estate Industry Professional but I'm darn sure human.  And that means I can adjust my thinking and my attitude to any market, conversation, challenge because I AM a chameleon.
Being a chameleon means I can adapt to my surroundings.
Regardless of where I am ....when it comes to ‘All Things Real Estate'..... I can take into consideration what real estate means at any given place and time. While blogging on ActiveRain,  I grasped the concept that ‘All Things Real … (22 comments)

hawaii businesses: BLAZIN' STEAKS MILILANI SHOPPING CENTER | GREAT FOOD, GREAT PRICE! - 08/11/09 01:44 PM
What opened next door to Century 21 Liberty Homes in Mililani Shopping Center?
BLAZIN STEAKS!
On July 10, 2009 we had the privilege of having a wonderful franchise open their doors right next to our office. To tell you the truth, we have a great place to get a great plate lunch at an awesome price!

When *Will Szameitat, the franchise owner of this Blazin' Steaks in Mililani Shopping Center was getting the space ready for opening, we got the chance to peek in and see what was going on.
The end product of all that hard work shows the … (22 comments)

hawaii businesses: Leeward Acupuncture Center, Inc. | Diego Leong Roig, LAC - 08/06/09 04:13 PM
What better way to write about a Hawaii Local Business except from first hand from experience?  Leeward Acupuncture Center, Inc. and my acupuncturist/massage therapist, Diego Leong Roig is everyone's alternative medicine and health care provider!
I made a decision a year ago that would turn out to be the best ‘medical' decision of my life.
The turning point was realizing that there IS an alternative to drugs and operations for certain medical problems. There IS an alternative other than the regular series of standard medical practice for things that would only cause future problems..... And still not ‘cure' the original symptom.

hawaii businesses: What's Really In A Brand Name? - 06/05/09 12:15 AM
I was born in the late 50's and spend my toddler years running around and learning how to irritate my two brothers. The 60's were times of jump rope, playing outside and drawing with chalk on the sidewalk to sketch blocks for hopscotch. Oh, a game or two of jacks or playing with Barbie's and making those little makeshift clothes and brushing their hair with tiny plastic Barbie brushes.
Even in teen years all that mattered was that I owned a mini skirt. It didn't matter if mom made it (though I had to tape up the hem on my way … (27 comments)

hawaii businesses: Tipping For Dummies - 06/03/09 09:34 PM
In my younger years...uh, wayyyyy back in the 70's and 80's I loved to work in restaurants as a waitress (now they call them food servers) serving cocktails and dinner. I loved running around and doing my best with a smile on my face and in the end receive a nice gratuity (tip) for my hard work and effort to make sure they have a wonderful dining experience.

I even got to wait on Steve Martin and Bernadette Peters wayyyyy back when at the Honolulu International Airport Dining Room. Yup...those were the days. Gratuities (tips) were included with delayed flights … (43 comments)

hawaii businesses: Dori and Councilmember Charles Djou - 05/29/09 06:42 PM
My daughter Dori attends the University of Hawaii West Oahu Campus for a couple of classes.  At present the West Oahu Campus is located in separate 29 portable classrooms on the Leeward Community College Campus.  Hopefully, the West Oahu Campus will come to life for all who have planned so hard for the Kapolei (Second City) Makai and Mauka Campuses on Oahu.
Councilmember Charles Djou represents the 4th Council District (Waikiki to Hawaii Kai).  His father was born in Shanghai, China and raised in Hong Kong and his mother was raised in Bangkok, Thailand. Charles was raised here in Hawaii. Read … (17 comments)

hawaii businesses: Kahuku Shrimp Farms, Shrimp Trucks and MORE! - 05/16/09 01:21 PM

Drive along Kamehameha Highway around the Kahuku area and you'll find many shrimp farms. Along side each shrimp farm you'll usually find their Kahuku Shrimp Truck that sell live or cooked shrimp to the public.
Fumi's and Romy's are two favorites of mine for a lunch plate. Rice, skillet garlic/butter shrimp and voila! A wonderful fresh shrimp lunch!
Kahuku has many shrimp farms that are built inland from the ocean although they are filled with salt water to raise the shrimp. They typically have two to three harvests a year.
Kahuku is also known for their agricultural products and you'll find many stands with … (13 comments)

hawaii businesses: The Wedding Luncheon Video - 04/01/09 12:13 AM
As you all know, Gerardo and Dori (my daughter) were married on Saturday. You can read about it here>>>  A Wonderful Change With A Spring Fresh Future!
Well, we just had a small luncheon afterwards at the Old Spaghetti Factory. (I love their food!)  Anyway, there is nothing more complete than having a video to show everyone's TRUE COLORS.
Listen closely and you'll hear all the remarks going on....like "that's your daugher"....and "why'd you ask how they  FEEL" and stuff like that.....quite hilarious.
BTW....Gary and I don't drink....and you can tell who is....like ...my mom for one lol!  Have fun....and … (21 comments)

hawaii businesses: Dirty Laundry VS Accountability - 03/05/09 07:57 PM
Exceptional service is one of my pet peeves...no matter what the profession. I bought a new washer/dryer combo last July. The second day I called to return it and have them deliver another one because the dryer was barely spinning. No problem they delivered another one in two days!
Slowly the spin cycle started going berserk. Nope, no overloading and no blankets but it kept clanging around during the spin cycle. Okay, enough is enough and two weeks ago we have an appointment that my husband took off work for. We find out there is no appointment and that they ordered … (34 comments)

hawaii businesses: Signs of the Changing Times? - 03/01/09 03:49 PM
This morning my husband drove me around to take pictures of our neighborhood. In my sweatpants (it's chilly this am) no makeup and camera in hand. Yup. We've had it.
This is an Association in a Community where we pay Association dues and we don't take it too kindly when outsiders plaster signs all over the place displaying their 'wares' as a permanent sign fixture.
It shows the struggle through our changing times but it does not make it right.
I often wonder how much I would trust the 'business' advertising on the road....if they have to put signage all over … (25 comments)

hawaii businesses: Are You A Fleeting Memory or Spirit of the Night? - 02/08/09 11:26 AM

The "Spirit of the Night" is the meaning of the name of this beautiful creature called a Lemur. Oddly enough, the 'eyeliner' around the creature's eyes really give off the effect of a ghost.
Posing with crossed legs and accustomed to picture taking it seems, the Lemur looked straight at us intently; stoically with concern. It seems to tell us with it's stare that something is brewing and very important.
Don't sit on the fence or sit back and watch everything pass you by; get up and do something about … (21 comments)

hawaii businesses: Crawford's Convalescent Home on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii - 02/04/09 08:19 PM

Many a time we drove around our island and passed this property and I was one to concoct all kinds of morbid thoughts and tales in my head when I saw a spooky kind of structure. This was one of them. After researching I found that there is nothing spooky about it but a worn down building on the property.
Right off Kamehameha Highway the old gutted building (to the right) still stands with what is left of the state home for wayward boys. On June 18, 2002 a fire destroyed all but concrete walls of the structure that was vacant … (20 comments)

hawaii businesses: PDC Systems Hawaii: I LOVE My New PC - 09/10/08 04:14 PM
A year ago my PC was ready for a clean wipe and reload BUT I wouldn't give my PC up for my husband to do it because I was TOO BUSY BLOGGING. WORKING.
Two weeks ago my PC started to get a couple of quirks and we knew it was time to have a new one built. (I'd been just upgrading for the past two years)
YAY!
A wonderful business work station was built for me by PDC Systems two weeks ago and my husband (who works for PDC) brought it home and installed the rest.
My new system is choice for what … (36 comments)
