hawaii land preservation: Is Hawaii Behind the Times? Common Misconceptions About the 50th State and Real Estate - 07/12/11 09:45 PM
Regardless if an Open House does not work in the Continental United States (commonly referred by us Hawaii residents as ‘the mainland') it does work on our island of Oahu in Hawaii. Densely populated, most neighborhoods on our island are a hop, skip and a jump from one to the next. Most can hit up to 20 Open Houses and view "homes of their dreams" within a three hour period on any given Sunday.
Keep in mind Oahu is just one island of the chain of islands that make up the State of Hawaii. Oops! You thought the island of (40 comments)
hawaii land preservation: Honolulu County Hawaii Zoning Laws and Land Use Permits - 06/16/11 02:44 PM
We all believe in all things tangible because we can touch, feel or see them. The ownership of land is the most valuable piece of tangible property there is. If you own a piece of a Hawaii....Land in Paradise with your own home on it then you have the most valuable asset one can have. The American Dream, right?
If there were no Restricted Preservation and Conservation land in Hawaii our islands would be full of cities and buildings and no History of Hawaii would be left behind except in books or online articles. If there were no involvement to protect (12 comments)
hawaii land preservation: The Waianae Coast | West Oahu Coastline and Interests - 04/10/10 01:52 PM
I appreciate the history surrounding Oahu and if one is relocating to Hawaii or just coming to visit, I strongly encourage to seek out the historic sites. There is more to an area besides the stores and malls and the history of an area will provide insight into the past to present.
The Waianae Range spreads the length of the West Coast of Oahu (Nanakuli, Maili, Lualualei, Waiane and Makaha are a few of the communities along the way) and separates it from the rest of the island. To get to the West Coast of Oahu you can just go (16 comments)
hawaii land preservation: FACT or FICTION? Honolulu County Leasehold Land - 04/30/09 02:12 PM
I've met many a buyer who obtain their ‘information' from unreliable sources (i.e. friends, family etc. who claim to know everything about Hawaii Land because they've read something somewhere). Most recently, a potential tenant who just Moved to Hawaii told me that he would never buy here because our land is ALL leasehold. HUH? That is just NOT true. We have just so much buildable land here (obviously) and there are many areas that are protected (preservation, conservation) as well as MANY..MOST... areas that are fee simple (outright own the land or an interest in the condo land) Before spreading rumors, (13 comments)
hawaii land preservation: The Protected & Endangered Hawaiian Goose: The Nene - 11/27/08 12:44 PM
Another endangered species in Hawaii is the Nene (neh neh) or Hawaiian Goose and is amongst the thirty bird species classified as endangered by the Federal and State Governments. The Nene is found ONLY in Hawaii and introduced as the State Bird in 1959 when Hawaii became the 50th state. Even after 40 years of reintroduction with breeding the Nene in captivity and releasing them into the wild the Nene still struggles to survive mainly due to introduced predators and the loss of feeding habitat. Following are a few historic points regarding the decline in Nene population: It is (28 comments)
hawaii land preservation: Respect for Our Hawaiian Land - 09/19/08 12:18 PM
Right down the street from the neighborhood of Waipio Gentry I was heartbroken to see the trash on the side of the road. Look at this! It looks like someone remodeled a bathroom and used the side of the road for a dump site. We have a wonderful system for BULKY ITEM PICKUP on Oahu (Honolulu County) as well as other dump sites as well. This kind of behavior is really not right. It's just plain laziness at our environments' expense. All areas of the island are on a no-call, regular monthly collection schedule for bulky item pickup. Collection schedules Monthly pickup in (36 comments)
Standing at Kewalo Basin I look out to Waikiki and the ever so famous Diamond Head (volcano crater) on the southeast coast of Oahu overlooking the Pacific Ocean in Honolulu, Hawaii. Overlooking an object in the water I choose to shoot the scene to 'possibility' depicting that the object is from some long ago sunken ship that wrecked on the reef. Whatever it was it was beautiful. Diamond Head is towards east Honolulu and past Waikiki Beach. This monstrous crater is an extinct volcano from 300,000 thousand years ago and is 3,520 feet in diameter with a 760 ft. summit.
This is the history of (23 comments)
hawaii land preservation: Endangered Hawaiian Monk Seals: What about "All Those Years Ago"? - 08/22/07 12:38 PM
www.localism.com featured article Hawaii is considered to be the "Endangered Species Capital of the World" with more than 317 plants and animal species that are endangered per sq. mile than anywhere else in the world. The most endangered mammal that is on the endangered species list is the HAWAIIAN MONK SEAL and every day there is something on our local news stations about these precious creatures. The Hawaiian Monk Seal usually lives around the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands (i.e. Midway Atoll, Kure Atoll, French Frigate Shoals etc.) and because they are uninhabited and remote and very little human presence it is the perfect place to live for these easily (52 comments)

www.localism.com featured article 8/18/2007 It is a known fact that all our Hawaiian Islands have many burial grounds and sites that have still not been "discovered". Another fact is that much of our land is zoned as Preservation and/or Conservation land. There are a few things about ancient Hawaiian Burial Sites that you all need to know if you are thinking about buying vacant land here in Hawaii because it's not as easy as you think. For one. Make sure and check into zoning laws. Hawaii (Oahu) Zoning, Special Use and Building Permits Next make sure and check into Preservation of (38 comments)
hawaii land preservation: Preservation AND Development for Ka'u, Hawaii? - 05/30/07 08:54 PM
Localism Featured! May 30, 2007 There is more to be said on Preservation of Hawaiian Culture, Land and History which was written by me on May 27, 2007. Since then I have received contact from an interested party although on the "other side" than the group I had mentioned in the post. Apparently, it goes deeper than preserving the land around the Ka'u area on the island of Hawaii in the Punalu'u area otherwise known for it's Black Sand Beach. I have not been to the Big Island (as I stated in other posts) since I was a teenager. I have walked on the black (22 comments)

Another Localism.com featured!! By Celeste "Sally" Cheeseman of Mililani, Hawaii! We all believe in all things tangible because we can touch, feel or see things. If there were no Restricted Preservation and Conservation land in Hawaii our islands would be full of cities and buildings and no History of Hawaii would be left behind except in text books. If there were no one who got involved to protect or take notice of our environment, protect our historic sites and our land what would we have left? Rich in beauty because of this preservation of our lands and ocean, the eye beholds scenery that all tourists, visitors, (21 comments)
