honolulu county: A Tragic Start to the Labor Day Weekend on Oahu (Honolulu County) Hawaii | Safety FIRST! - 09/03/11 11:16 PM
Four soldiers stationed at Schofield Barracks in Wahiawa, Oahu (Honolulu County), Hawaii were able to walk out to Mokolii Island, best known as “Chinaman’s Hat”, during low tide yesterday at about 1pm. They decided to head back to Kuoloa Beach Park on the Windward side of Oahu during high tide and ran into trouble.
You can read more about the tragedy here:

honolulu county: The Waianae Coast | West Oahu Coastline and Interests - 04/10/10 01:52 PM
I appreciate the history surrounding Oahu and if one is relocating to Hawaii or just coming to visit, I strongly encourage to seek out the historic sites. There is more to an area besides the stores and malls and the history of an area will provide insight into the past to present.

The Waianae Range spreads the length of the West Coast of Oahu (Nanakuli, Maili, Lualualei, Waiane and Makaha are a few of the communities along the way) and separates it from the rest of the island. To get to the West Coast of Oahu you can just go … (16 comments)

honolulu county: Fabric Mart in Aiea | Hawaiian Print Material At Wholesale/Discount Prices! - 02/23/10 10:50 PM

After receiving a request from a friend to check around for scarves with Hawaiian print material and preferably with soft colors and soft material, I went on the hunt.  Hmm...looking online and in local stores it was a whopping $30-$60 for A (one) scarf. I needed to find a BUNCH of scarves or else material that one could hem to make scarves and get them to her asap lest she be unable to be 'stylin'".
Ah...one material section in a local department store sufficed for a few picks and then I remembered FABRIC MART in Aiea!  I planned to go this morning after setting a few appointments and I finally got … (22 comments)

honolulu county: Honolulu County & Traffic Info - 10/31/08 11:48 AM
It's the hustle and bustle of early morning traffic coming from Central Oahu and heading in to Downtown Honolulu (in the distance are the tall buildings of the business district) We bear with it during these hours between 6-8 in the morning and bear with it between 4-6 or so in the evenings.
Peak hour traffic is nothing new for any of us here in the city or anywhere else in the nation.
The thing about Honolulu traffic is that there is just so many alternate routes and if the highway is jammed, so will the side streets be.
The positive side of all … (10 comments)

honolulu county: Keaiwa Heiau State Recreation Area - Aiea - 08/18/08 09:52 PM

Keaiwa Heiau (an Ancient Hawaiian Temple) is located at the top of Aiea Heights Drive in the Keaiwa Heiau State Recreation Area. Upon entry into the State Park the Keaiwa Heiau is to the left and you will definitely do a double take at first glance. KEAIWA HEIAU is known as the temple with life. It is believed to be where the 'Kahuna' (priest, minister) practiced the art of healing. The gardens right by the temple were compounded and then given to the patient while praying.
It is unknown when this Heiau was built but one source says possibly around … (15 comments)

honolulu county: The History Behind DIAMOND HEAD Crater - Honolulu County- Hawaii - 07/16/08 07:47 PM

Standing at Kewalo Basin I look out to Waikiki and the ever so famous Diamond Head (volcano crater) on the southeast coast of Oahu overlooking the Pacific Ocean in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Overlooking an object in the water I choose to shoot the scene to 'possibility' depicting that the object is from some long ago sunken ship that wrecked on the reef.
Whatever it was it was beautiful.
Diamond Head is towards east Honolulu and past Waikiki Beach. This monstrous crater is an extinct volcano from 300,000 thousand years ago and is 3,520 feet in diameter with a 760 ft. summit.

This is the history of … (23 comments)

honolulu county: What You Didn't Know about the HAWAIIAN ISLANDS - 07/13/08 11:12 PM
Dedicated to Bob Stewart
(who is attending the Hawaii Association of Realtors®  2008 Pacific Rim Conference & Expo on the Island of Hawaii on September 18 & 19th, 2008 at the Hilton Waikoloa Village )

Yes, Hawaii is a State that was admitted into the Union on August 21, 1959 and making it the 50th State. Now, for those that have never even stepped foot in Hawaii.... let's clear up a few things.
First of all, it's widespread near and far that Hawaii is an island paradise. Right? Full of trade winds blowing through your hair and beautiful balmy sunny skies above. We have beautiful beaches and lush green valleys and wonderful hiking … (26 comments)

honolulu county: State Farm Insurance Company: Mililani Shopping Center (update!!!!) - 07/13/08 12:23 AM
Our plight with the leak from upstairs ended last week when the kitchen ceiling was replaced this past week. The one thing that I was so upset about was that no one would take responsibility or be accountable for our ceiling caving in .... after two weeks of sitting on their floor (my ceiling) from THEIR FLOOD.
Well, out of all that mess, we stressed out for a month, our insurance company ALLSTATE dropped us and I inquired with a couple of insurance companies to see what we could get in light of this tragedy.
Yeah, it's a tragedy when you are … (33 comments)

honolulu county: A Paradise Sunrise at Makapu'u Hawaii (LOCALISM FEATURED) - 07/05/08 12:59 PM

It's 4:05 am on July 4th, 2008 and he gets up and stumbles to the bathroom. After he's finished he climbs back into bed and snuggles close to her. Just when he's starting to doze off again she startles him wide awake with a "let's get up and drive to the other side of the island to look at the sunrise"!
Huh? He rubs his eyes and asks her, "Are you serious?". YUP!
She jumps out of bed and hops in the shower with the poochie running after him while he turns the automatic coffee pot to 'brew' NOW.

honolulu county: The BEST THINGS to Do While Visiting the Hawaiian Islands!! - 06/17/08 01:07 PM
ALOHA! Welcome to Our World..... A PARADISE awaits you!
Seems like everyone wants to visit Honolulu, Hawaii at one point in their life. Why? Ahhhhh...the tropical breezes in balmy weather looking up at sunny blue skies in a land of paradise. Typically, the imagery in a ones mind who has not ever stepped foot on our fine grains of sand splattered on beaches lining the edges of our islands is one of a continuous 'ancient era'.
Running barefoot on the beaches where my grass shack residence surely lay, I have endless days of sipping Mai Tai drinks with the little umbrellas poked … (59 comments)

honolulu county: Kaiser Permanente Clinics.....and Farmer's Markets??? - 06/15/08 05:32 PM

Kaiser Permanente Medical Centers and Clinics are located in Honolulu, Moanalua and most recently in Waipio Gentry.
About a month ago our family transferred over to the Kaiser Plan and we picked the Waipio Clinic to be our home of record as it is just blocks from home.
I wanted to just let you all know that during my first visit with my doctor I was pleased with the technology they have upgraded to since I was last with them in 2003.
The doctor went through all my history within the first hour of that first meeting.  All tests, referrals and specialist appointments … (10 comments)

honolulu county: When Trade Winds Blow...So Will The Vog - 04/29/08 04:29 PM
Back in May of 2007 I wrote about Blogging about "VOG" in Hawaii and to this day I am still getting comments on that post!  I wrote: "VOG" is Volcanic Air Pollution.  Oahuexperiences "VOG" when trade winds change direction after there has been volcanic action on the island of Hawaii or otherwise known as the Big Island.  The winds will blow this volcanic air pollution towards us and make our little world look all hazy.
The picture to the left was taken April 26th, 2008 on Oahu; and you can barely see the Koolau mountain Range in the background.
Vog has been prevalent due … (23 comments)
