In Hawaii, we are having a crisis of our own. The ripple effect from the declining tourism industry is on a roll. Because the housing market is so bad in many places on the mainland it's obvious that the number of our incoming vacationers has dropped over 17% for last month alone. No telling what this month's figures will bring. Then starts the ripple effect of a declining tourism industry due to the decline in incoming visitors to Hawaii. The Patsy T. Mink Central Oahu Regional Park (located at 94-801 Kamehameha Highway Waipahu, HI 96797 - (808) 676-6982) was renamed last August 2007 for the late civil rights councilwoman Patsy Mink who passed away in 2002. This huge 269 acre park has walking paths, 20 court tennis center, 4 youth baseball diamonds, 4 regulation sized baseball diamonds, 4 diamond softball complex and the Veteran's Memorial Aquatic Center. The Veterans Memorial Aquatic Center is maintained by the Department of Parks & Recreation, City & County of Honolulu and they opened their center to the public on Veterans Day of 2005. About a week and a half ago I was at the office and I get a call on my cellular.Hmm...long distance. Bet it's a telemarketer. Hit ignore. The office phone rings and she asks for ... ME.
