localism: ActiveRain is About REAL ESTATE, Our Communities and …..US - 05/06/11 07:29 PM
Real Estate is about our local communities. A seasoned agent knows their local real estate market and also knows about their local area and communities too. ActiveRain believes in this theory and therefore started the ActiveRain Community Sponsorship (previously known as a ‘Localism Sponsorship'). The topics include everything and anything to do with our local areas including businesses, events, history, people, places and things. Real Estate is about people. It's the people behind the words at ActiveRain. We know that transparency is key to communicating online. We write about personal dilemmas or triumphs and support each other through all. Writing as if (38 comments)
localism: Give Them Reason to Read Your Blog - BE the LOCAL EXPERT - 12/09/10 08:35 PM
Have you ever wondered what makes a good blog to gain readership? In the beginning I just thought that it would be great to get a bunch of members reading my post. It was a lot of fun and darn if I didn't get a bunch of featured posts. I made friends and boy did we have a lot of fun! Eventually my writing took a turn and I took everything I wrote to a higher level. I started to think about all the leads I was getting from my ActiveRain blog and what the topics were that they were contacting (86 comments)
localism: Fabric Mart in Aiea | Hawaiian Print Material At Wholesale/Discount Prices! - 02/23/10 10:50 PM
After receiving a request from a friend to check around for scarves with Hawaiian print material and preferably with soft colors and soft material, I went on the hunt. Hmm...looking online and in local stores it was a whopping $30-$60 for A (one) scarf. I needed to find a BUNCH of scarves or else material that one could hem to make scarves and get them to her asap lest she be unable to be 'stylin'". Ah...one material section in a local department store sufficed for a few picks and then I remembered FABRIC MART in Aiea! I planned to go this morning after setting a few appointments and I finally got (22 comments)
localism: ALL THINGS REAL ESTATE! - 10/18/09 01:29 PM
Some may tend to believe that Real Estate talk means only short sales, buyers, sellers, loans and so forth. I'm a Real Estate Industry Professional but I'm darn sure human. And that means I can adjust my thinking and my attitude to any market, conversation, challenge because I AM a chameleon. Being a chameleon means I can adapt to my surroundings. Regardless of where I am ....when it comes to ‘All Things Real Estate'..... I can take into consideration what real estate means at any given place and time. While blogging on ActiveRain, I grasped the concept that ‘All Things Real (22 comments)
localism: Are You Engaging Your Readers? - 10/13/09 05:44 PM
There are many topics and thousands of posts that have been written about How to Blog, Why to Blog, When to Blog, Where to Blog and What to Blog. And then you see a comment on someones post where the writer is complaining about others getting featured posts all the time. Obviously they aren't getting a post featured ...or even read......and they are wondering why? We engage the reader with our ‘interesting' content and I can't be more straightforward than to say that if you want others to read your posts you have to MAKE it interesting. Localism Posts: They have (88 comments)

localism: Localism Writing & The Relevance to Real Estate - 01/18/09 12:06 AM
Being an advocate for Localism has been one of my favorite past times on ActiveRain. When I first joined ActiveRain there were about 19k members. Localism was geared toward all types of local area writing. There were listings, market reports, local area points of interest, community happenings and loan information. We posted photos and created the communities and kept plugging away to get the Localism site full of content, views, scenery and more. Then the launch of Localism last year caused a ruckus because it was going to be geared more toward Local Area Businesses and happenings. Change always seems to (70 comments)
localism: GONG Uses in Real Estate & Blogging - 10/23/08 02:00 PM
My friend Brian Block sent me a little package the other day. I opened it to find a copy of my post from July.... The Gong Show Returns! along with a miniature gong, gonger (the think that hits the gong) and a gong book of uses. I crack up. Who remembers "THE GONG SHOW"? The book said that you shouldn't use the gong for some of these purposes: in a library, at a best friends wedding, at a funeral, your first date, when your boss is speaking and so forth. Yup, I do believe those may be causes to lose friends and your job (52 comments)
localism: Be Creative, Unique & REAL - 10/14/08 04:44 PM
For those of you that have not read Rich Jacobson's post on "Taking Advantage of a Good Thing" - AR Community Guidelines Re-Visited you may want to dive in and learn. ****The last part of our guidelines was stated in Rich's post: "Do not attempt to selfishly manipulate search engine results through blackhat SEO techniques, such as Keyword Stuffing, or by posting endless copied sections of your local MLS. Violation of this guideline may result in an immediate termination of your ActiveRain account/profile." We as Real Estate Industry Professionals respect each other & work as a team....so why is it so hard to (71 comments)

localism: Hawaiian Electric (HECO) Rebates on Energy Star® Appliances - 08/09/08 11:57 AM
We decided to start doing more to make our townhouse more energy efficient. Well, there's just so much you can do for a small townhouse so we started with the lightbulbs and an air conditioner a couple of years ago. Then, a couple of weeks ago we went to Costco and we found TWO 52" Hunter ceiling fans with lights and on the box it had a sticker "Energy Star". Why did we start getting to be energy efficient wise guys? Our Hawaiian Electric bill was almost one hundred eighty dollars And....our electric bill will KEEP climbing We needed to reduce our (13 comments)
localism: More on the Land Rush ....Creating YOUR OWN Communities - 08/07/08 12:18 AM
Bob Stewart - ActiveRain (ActiveRain) is supposed to write on the topic of Creating Communities for Localism although I can imagine the bombardment with the LAND RUSH going on. I wanted to give my opinion on concerns that arose of diluting the communities and cities within our counties and creating our own niche market communities. There have got to be rules too, right? For one. We have our own problems with just the geographical areas alone. In Hawaii, there were bases listed as cities and communities listed in cities that didn't belong (one of them I added in back in early 2007 by (57 comments)
localism: Anticipation........Ketchup & Localism - 08/04/08 11:54 AM
I have to get to the office soon and I didn't sleep to well last night. I am going to try the Localism sponsorship ....if even to get the "wonder" out of my mind. If not, I will be wondering from here on out. Even if I find that it is not benefitting me in the long run ..... at least I supported our community. That in itself will be well worth it. I mean...I've been blogging here since March of 2007 and at least I can show my support in return for all the hard work and effort ActiveRain has (40 comments)

It's 4:05 am on July 4th, 2008 and he gets up and stumbles to the bathroom. After he's finished he climbs back into bed and snuggles close to her. Just when he's starting to doze off again she startles him wide awake with a "let's get up and drive to the other side of the island to look at the sunrise"! Huh? He rubs his eyes and asks her, "Are you serious?". YUP! She jumps out of bed and hops in the shower with the poochie running after him while he turns the automatic coffee pot to 'brew' NOW. localism: The BEST THINGS to Do While Visiting the Hawaiian Islands!! - 06/17/08 01:07 PM
ALOHA! Welcome to Our World..... A PARADISE awaits you! Seems like everyone wants to visit Honolulu, Hawaii at one point in their life. Why? Ahhhhh...the tropical breezes in balmy weather looking up at sunny blue skies in a land of paradise. Typically, the imagery in a ones mind who has not ever stepped foot on our fine grains of sand splattered on beaches lining the edges of our islands is one of a continuous 'ancient era'. Running barefoot on the beaches where my grass shack residence surely lay, I have endless days of sipping Mai Tai drinks with the little umbrellas poked (59 comments)

Time for me to get out there and give back to the Rain! A lot of new members do not know what a Localism post is besides that it is "for the consumer".
