The Polynesian Cultural Center is a must do when visiting the island of Oahu (Honolulu County). The center opened in 1963, with over 1.300 employees representing the Polynesian cultures for all to enjoy the different cultures, dance and food from the island and nations from Hawaii to Samoa, Fiji, Tahiti Tonga and more--- Needless to say, Polynesia include 12 million square miles of the Pacific Ocean. A year round treat for residents and visitors alike, the Polynesian Cultural Center also has a special treat for Halloween. The "Haunted Lagoon" canoe ride. north shore hawaii: Kahuku Sugar Mill and North Shore Activities on Oahu, Hawaii - 02/22/09 11:17 PM
The Kahuku Sugar Mill was built in 1890 on the North Shore of Oahu in a town called Kahuku. The portuguese, Japanese and Filipino immigrants came to work this plantation for eight decades. Being the victim of decay and the costly cleanup of polluted land was the reason for tearing down much of what was left of the mill in 2004. Everyone in this tiny little town grew up around this mill and everyone seemed to have a connection to it. The Mormons settled there in the mid 1800's and they are the ones who began cultivation of sugar and (18 comments)

Many a time we drove around our island and passed this property and I was one to concoct all kinds of morbid thoughts and tales in my head when I saw a spooky kind of structure. This was one of them. After researching I found that there is nothing spooky about it but a worn down building on the property. Right off Kamehameha Highway the old gutted building (to the right) still stands with what is left of the state home for wayward boys. On June 18, 2002 a fire destroyed all but concrete walls of the structure that was vacant (20 comments)
On January 3rd, 2009 we headed over to my Auntie's condo in Yacht Harbor Towers right off Ala Moana Boulevard in Honolulu, Hawaii. Needless to say, her condo overlooks the Ala Wai Yacht Harbor and Ala Moana Beach and park. Right past the harbor is Magic Island, a small peninsula known for their parks where many have their family gatherings and also watch the fireworks over the ocean on New Years and July 4th. If you look closely...right in the middle of the picture right past the boats are the outrigger canoe paddlers training (52 comments)
