professionalism: Poaching Clients and Showing Cleavage? - 04/19/11 07:08 PM
We have seen  all sides of the business.  We continuously see the good vs. bad, the positive vs. negative, the apple and the orange. Oh, goodness, but what about the ugly?  The class where you just shake your head in disbelief.
The truth is that we see all kinds in any walks of life.
It's not just the real estate industry!
Whew!  I thought I was losing my mind when I heard this story. Come on folks- this island is just too small to hear the nitty gritty about another agent.  NO, THIS DID NOT HAPPEN TO ME but if I heard … (30 comments)

professionalism: May the Best Person Win | Support For a Great Nation - 11/03/10 09:39 PM
No matter where we travel in this country there will politics.  We vote for those we believe will do good for our country, our state, our county, the real estate industry, right in the office and even in the confines of our home between family members.
We are a competitive class called humans.
So how do we know who to choose? We really don't ‘know' them (I mean REALLY know them)  and rely on hearsay and what we've seen in tv ads, blogs or in the newspaper.   Those that ‘heard' something ten years ago still hold it against them and don't believe … (9 comments)

professionalism: My Twelve Step Program to Being a Successful Real Estate Agent - 04/12/10 12:11 PM
Striving to be all I can be.....and then some:

I have no control over others and do not try and MAKE them think like me. We are all human and individuals with our own opinions and there is no two that think alike. That's what makes me unique. There may be a power greater than myself but ultimately it is me that has to do the footwork. I will be patient and tolerant and accept situations on a case by case basis so I do not go insane. I will LISTEN to my clients needs...not tell them what they ‘want' to hear. … (23 comments)

professionalism: Leave the Drama for Your Mama...Get a LIFE - 12/18/09 07:16 PM
Gail Robinson wrote a post Top 50 AR Bloggers in December 2009  and it was about the top (points) bloggers on AR who have remained in the top 50 for the past two years (and still active) and who was included in this list?  Yes, MOI. And it took plenty of dedication, commitment and consistency with blogging on ActiveRain...to get to this point.
That first year of 2007 I was going through my trials and tribulations in blogging. ActiveRain was THE very first real estate network that I joined and it was a new experience for me in the world of … (29 comments)

professionalism: Dirty Laundry VS Accountability - 03/05/09 07:57 PM
Exceptional service is one of my pet peeves...no matter what the profession. I bought a new washer/dryer combo last July. The second day I called to return it and have them deliver another one because the dryer was barely spinning. No problem they delivered another one in two days!
Slowly the spin cycle started going berserk. Nope, no overloading and no blankets but it kept clanging around during the spin cycle. Okay, enough is enough and two weeks ago we have an appointment that my husband took off work for. We find out there is no appointment and that they ordered … (34 comments)

professionalism: Can You See The REAL Me? - 11/12/08 11:27 PM
We as Real Estate Professionals strive to be all we can be online. We write about our industry, our local areas, joke around and give information from Real Estate to Mortgage Programs, Staging, Home Inspections, Blogging, Social Networking and so on and so on.
There is a fine line between being transparent and letting it all hang out though isn't there?
We give a little of ourselves, our personalities, our expert advice, tips and tricks and all sorts of things while writing online. But when it comes to displaying inappropriate behavior online I really start writing.....A lot.  I'm being transparent with … (44 comments)

professionalism: Are You REALLY Thinking in the Best Interests of YOUR BUYER??? - 10/29/08 02:18 PM
When there are agents that are NOT thinking in the best interests of their clients and make decisions for them or steer them in the wrong direction, I really question what their agenda is. I represent both buyers or sellers and have been keeping my head above water because I question what I don't know and actually put myself in other people's shoes before flapping my lips.
Over the last week (amongst getting over strep throat) I have had a few instances where I just can't figure how these agents believe they are thinking in the best interests of their buyer let alone this industry.
1)  Ringy … (64 comments)

professionalism: It's 4:00 AM! - 09/26/08 03:06 PM
Deep in slumber at 4:00am HAWAIIAN ISLANDS TIME the phone rings. By the second ring I wake up to actually know that I wasn't still dreaming. Then I bark out loud (asking no one in particular), "What the hay"? I scramble to answer the phone and seemingly miss the call. I check the 'recent incoming calls' and see that it is a long distance number.
GRRRRRRR.
We already know what this call is. A telemarketer that left no message and did not take into consideration the time zones.
I get back to sleep in 10 minutes and at 5:15am I wake to the … (63 comments)

professionalism: Professional Attitudes & Behaviors Online - 09/16/08 07:27 PM

Professional Attitudes & Behaviors ONLINE should hold true as the same offline. We follow what is stated in our Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice.  Even if your profession does not specifically have a Code of Ethics it is pretty much common sense to respect others in our industry as well. Our COE specifically states, "The duties imposed by the Code of Ethics encompass all real estate related activities and transactions whether conducted in person, electronically, or through any other means.
More specifically I read many a rude comment about other agents or peers from members here on Active Rain. It also brought … (84 comments)

professionalism: The Signs Say -WE BUY HOMES! - 08/24/08 10:51 PM

I know there's a lot of these "We buy houses" signs all over the nation...but right here on Oahu?
We went out yesterday and within 10 minutes of each other there were signs for "WE BUY HOUSES".
One was right in our residential area and the other one right on the highway.

Now, we are always instructed to not place our Open House signs on the highways (and this is just for a couple of hours) so why do these guys get to have theirs up 24/7?
These advertising bits are all over the internet and on streets. … (108 comments)

professionalism: You Want ME to Watch YOUR Open House????? - 08/22/08 04:48 PM
Granted, we have all had our share of situations that will put a Realtor® in a different class of our professionals whether it be great or not so great calegories. It's these particular situations and stories that will set us apart from the individuals who do not see the importance of why we DO NOT:
Cut corners on any part of our service as a Professional Realtor® The bare minimal to get a transaction done and a paycheck is not my idea of being professional. Slide past details in any part of our contingencies in a contract or representing our clients. Thinking that everyone else will pick up … (29 comments)

professionalism: Where's the Fairy Godmother? - 08/12/08 12:38 AM
When I am representing a Hawaii Home Buyer or a Hawaii Home Seller there is always one basic rule:  No matter which hat I'm wearing I totally think and perform in the best interests of my client.  I have the ability to switch my hats and shift into high gear for whichever side I am representing.
The problems that keeps reoccuring are the ones with other agents who are not performing even the menial tasks that come with "job". Regardless if the market is booming or not we are professionals and do everything down to detail. Right? Uh...not so when it's a limited menu item agency representing the seller.
It's so … (37 comments)

professionalism: My Responsibilities as an Independent Contractor - 08/08/08 10:24 AM
In a nutshell it means I am self employed. Even though I hang my license as a Realtor-Associate®  with Century 21 Liberty Homes, Mililani, Hawaii.....I am my own business and I have responsibilities (paperwork and that dreaded itemizing expenses/deductions and PAYING my own TAXES) that automatically come with being an independent contractor.
I pay my own quarterly estimated self employment Hawaii State Tax, Federal Tax, GET (General Excise Tax).
I pay my own expenses: postcards (like the one in the picture that I paid someone to make because I was strapped for time) gasoline, supplies, marketing, extra classes, licensing fees, MLS dues, NAR dues, HAR (Hawaii Association of Realtors) dues, HBR … (31 comments)

professionalism: Are WE Flawless? Or Humanly Flawed? - 06/05/08 04:15 PM
A Realtor® who follows through from beginning to end and dotting all their i's and crossing all their t's surely are the ones who are considered ....flawless?
Uh, we are human and no matter how much we go over details we are bound to make mistakes. Now, this is a far cry from scooting around and doing the minimal a Realtor® is required to do or cutting corners and omitting certain information that could possibly bit us in the behind later. I'm talking about making a humanly human mistake versus making a costly mistake we're aware of.
Last night we watched … (29 comments)
