new hampshire: Fierce winds and rain bring strong weather patterns to New Hampshire and Maine - 02/27/10 08:32 AM
You may already know that many parts of New Hampshire and Maine were hit with strong winds and driving rain on Thursday during the day and even more so on Thursday evening. Strong winds damages many parts of town, bringing down power lines, trees, and damaging homes. The news stations are reporting that over 300,000 people have lost power. I live in Somersworth New Hampshire and lost power around 10:00 pm on Thursday. I was lucky enough to have power restored last night, Friday around 7:00. Others in the area have not been so lucky! new hampshire: Enjoying school vacation week in New Hampshire - 02/24/10 10:55 AM
The last week in February is typically a school vacation week here in New Hampshire. I remember as a kid growing up that I enjoyed this school vacation more than any other. Living on the Seacoast of New Hampshire, we are lucky enough to be a short driving distance to the beaches for the summer, and the mountains in the winter. Every February vacation, my parents would take me to my choice of ski area and go skiing for a couple days. Skiing for me was, and still is one thing I thoroughly enjoy. It always amazed me as a

new hampshire: Is there snow on your roof New Hampshire? Be prepared! - 01/23/10 03:41 PM
If you live in an area known for snow-filled winters, like New Hampshire is, chances are you've had to clear snow off your roof. This past week had been a strange weather pattern. From rain, to snow, warm temperatures, and below freezing temperatures. The snow on roofs has been building, melting, and refreezing. We are expecting temperatures around 40 plus degrees with 2-3 inches of heavy rain! What does that mean for the snow on your roof? Well, if it has not melted off, the snow will act as a sponge and retain all of the water. This means a heavy load

new hampshire: Powering a University by landfill gas; UNH, Durham New Hampshire - 05/18/09 01:25 PM
The University of New Hampshire located in Durham New Hampshirehas announced today that the four year project of generating heat and electricity by burning methane gas provided by a Turnkey landfill in Rochester New Hampshirehas been completed! The methane travels 12.7 miles underground from a processing plant at the Turnkey Landfill in Rochester to the campus. It ends up inside UNH's co-generation plant, replacing natural gas.The landfill could continue to produce methane for up to 20 to 30 years after it has closed. Just another reason why I love living in the beautiful state of New Hampshire.

new hampshire: Some New Hampshire Whoopie; Interested? Take a look! - 04/04/09 12:56 PM
Well, you were interested weren't you! Some New Hampshire Whoopie might not have been what you thought it was, but this one is just as good. The whoopie pie, considered a New England, and New Hampshire favorite happens to be a sweet that I have grown to love. What is a whoopie pie? A whoopie pie is a sandwich, consisting of two, chocolate flavored cakes, or cookies, with a fluffy, white filling. The state of Maine might say that they have the original whoopie pie in their history, I think it came from the wonderful state of New

new hampshire: New Hampshire Maple season is upon us. Try this great recipe out. - 03/26/09 10:33 AM
Each year, the New Hampshire maple industry produces close to 90,000 gallons of maple syrup. Maple sugaring time in New Hampshire runs from mid-February to mid-April. As the frozen sap in the maple tree thaws, it begins to move and build up pressure within the tree. When the internal pressure reaches a certain point, sap will flow from any fresh wound in the tree. Freezing nights and warm sunny days create the pressure needed for a good sap Harvest. In late February, New Hampshire maple producers tap their sugar maples by drilling a small hole in the trunk and inserting a

new hampshire: A little New Hampshire humor for your Thursday morning. - 03/26/09 07:03 AM
There are these 4 guys driving in a car together, 1 from Maine, 1 from Vermont, 1 from Massachusetts, and 1 from New Hampshire. Down the road a bit, the man from Maine starts throwing bags of potatoes out of the car window, the man from NH asks what are you doing that for? The man from Maine says, we have so many potatoes just lying around our state and I'm just sick and tired of seeing these things. Down the road a bit more, the man from Vermont starts throwing jugs out maple syrup out of the car window, the

I could go on and on for hours. The one thing my family and I love to do, we enjoy a hockey game at Durham's Whittemore Center to watch UNH men's hockey. This evening, Feb. 20th, 2009, the UNH men's hockey team will be facing off at 7:30 p.m., playing against the defending National Champions of Boston College. In New Hampshire, we take pride in our hockey

new hampshire: Welcome to Newfields New Hampshire - 02/11/08 12:50 PM
Located in Rockingham County New Hampshire, Newfields is a small town with a population of approximately 1600 people. Located along the shores of the Squamscott river, Newfields abuts the towns of Newmarket New Hampshire, Exeter New Hampshire, Stratham New Hampshire, and Epping New Hampshire. First incorporated in 1849, the town was originally called Newfield Village. Newfield Village was originally just a passage way from Stratham to Exeter with a bridge that was built to cross the Squamscott River. Newfields has always been an important part of the Seacoast New Hampshire history because of it's location at the mouth of the Squamscott River.
