beaufort sc real estate agent: Backwards In High Heels, Forward Into Chaos - 08/03/10 09:43 AM
A few years ago I started a small group for women in real estate and development (WIRED) in Beaufort South Carolina. I don't remember exactly what brought it about other than I knew there was no way I was the only one facing the challenges of the day to day grind. It started with an email titled "Backwards in High Heels, Forward into Chaos" where I basically rambled about how difficult it was some days just to manage to get dressed while juggling a cell phone, laptop, and lockbox. I sent it to a few of my favorite female Realtors and

beaufort sc real estate agent: I Did What Any Tech Savvy Southerner Would Do, I Googled Barbie! - 12/06/09 09:58 AM
This past week I found myself in one of those rare moments in life that one can either rise above or sink miserably below. Thank goodness for that little voice inside my head (sounds an awful lot like my grandmother) that warned me against being drawn into silly arguments or foolish banter, even when every bone in my body is screaming otherwise. I have struggled with even justifying it by writing this post for several days. I suppose the voice inside my head wears off after a while. Trying to keep a positive attitude in this profession can sometimes take the strength

beaufort sc real estate agent: Face to Face or Facebook.....Twitter or Talk? - 10/27/09 04:25 PM
I am torn. For a while, I was posting at least once a day, sometimes more. My Facebook account was spit-shined with updated pictures and snappy quotes. It isn't that I wasn't producing, but I must admit once I stuck my head back in the real world (aka had actual not virtual conversations, visited instead of tweeted, talked instead of text, and actually hand wrote a few thank you notes) my business certainly did not suffer. I don't think the virtual world has become such a force that it can replace a smile, a handshake, or a shared cup of coffee.

beaufort sc real estate agent: My Clients Text Me....ALOT - 06/25/09 09:47 AM
I am beginning to wonder how I ever made it without texting. I am certainly saving my vocal chords more these days, using acronyms as if they were going out of style, and "lol" and ":)" are my new best friends. My clients text me...ALOT, and that is ok with me. I am able to answer their questions quickly and effectively even while they are at work. My clients can also go back and review our conversations when needed. It is also a great way for me to keep records of the numerous issues that arise during the day. I agree

beaufort sc real estate agent: You Had Me at Hell NO! - 03/13/09 06:57 AM
As every other Realtor in this market, I have an endless stream of hysterical, comical, and even frightening conversation starters. Thanks to my day to day experiences, I am never without a good story. In seven years I have been shocked, touched, terrified, and "weirded-out", but NEVER, EVER have I come across the pure ignorance that sached into my life yesterday. My beautiful mother, bless her southern heart, always told me to hold my tongue. Thank goodness my grandmother was standing right behind her telling me to speak my mind. I was showing property yesterday to a client that once

beaufort sc real estate agent: Three Marines, One Car, Two Price Ranges, and A Brand New Puppy - 02/21/09 07:44 AM
Guzzling my third cup of coffee, I am preparing for a very busy day. I will be showing property to a young Marine. We have been speaking via email for a while now so I feel pretty confident I know what to expect. What I didn't expect was him to call me and say; "Is it ok, if two of my friends come, they really need a good Realtor. They need to purchase a home too." Let me think? Of course, I said. He went on to explain that the two friends were also Marines and their wives weren't coming into

beaufort sc real estate agent: Beaufort Says Farewell To Summer - 09/27/08 07:58 PM
As September comes to an end Beaufort, SC says farewell to another gorgeous summer season. We won't be crowding into the Ladys Island Publix to grab our to-go fried chicken, our tans will slowly fade, MOST of us will go ahead and store away our abundant array of flip-flops, our boats won't be nearly as crowded, and we may actually spend a bit more time inside. The morning air is crisp and cooler than normal. Our air conditioners are getting a little lonesome. We are already deciding which farm we will visit for our festive pumpkins.

beaufort sc real estate agent: I Have An Ipod Full Of Clients!!!!!!!!!!!1 - 09/17/08 09:48 AM
Most people may agree that in this difficult market our job as Realtors can be a bit depressing on most days. After all it is hard to hear some of our best clients talk about their fears in trying to sell their home. Another challenging task is to balance the media drivel with sound facts with our prospective buyers. I am certain many people have ways of bringing humor which in turn brings sanity. Mine??? Well my clients have theme songs:). Stay with me..... Currently I have the following sellers with their matching theme songs.. I'll Stand By You (Bonnie Tyler)- These

beaufort sc real estate agent: It Takes A Entire Village to Sell a Home - 09/09/08 07:30 AM
Are you still in the days of a home selling itself? Have you begun to realize that it is possible to recruit a bit of help? Seriously..It really does take an entire village to sell a home! My mom always told me to pick my friends wisely. She would say.. " You are who you are surrounded by.." Good point Mom! So for the past few months I have implemented my "It takes an entire village approach" and it actually works. Here are the basics: Send a HANDWRITTEN note card to all the neighbors once the property is listed. Not

beaufort sc real estate agent: It Would Have Been A Nice Commission....I Suppose..... - 04/18/08 12:01 PM
If the walls of our cars could talk.... I guess by now it is pretty obvious to most that I am a wee bit protective and maybe even slightly neurotic of my precious (yep I said "my" so maybe even a little egocentristic) little town by the sea. Beaufort has meant so much to me in so many ways. I first came to Beaufort solely based on a conversation I overheard in an emergency room. I vaguely recall the injury most likely one of my slip, trip, bump-n bruise days no doubt. Emergency rooms are not the best places for

Wander through the Old Point to watch the marsh come into focus beyond stately old homes. Long armed live oaks form

beaufort sc real estate agent: An Oil Change, A Brake Job, and An Ice Cream Sundae - 03/12/08 09:59 PM
Okay folks....its run around town Wednesday for me. I have been so busy (thank goodness) that my everyday errands have gone a bit unnoticed. You know...that oil change light comes on and haunts you like a demon in the night....then of course you realize that it is YOU squeaking at the traffic lights...Yep, that is how I began my day. So the oil change (thanks to the great Zippy Lube guys) was quite painless. However, the wonderful people at Tire Kingdom informed me it "may take a while" for my brake pads to be replaced. Hmmmmm..Realtor without car = Realtor without

beaufort sc real estate agent: Im doing the Happy Buyer Dance!!!! - 03/11/08 10:23 AM
Two years ago I was blessed with so many sellers who thought I hung the moon. They loved me, referred all their friends and family, and even sent me Christmas gifts! I am still fortunate...my sellers still love me but our lengthy conversations are a bit different than years past. We spend hours on end sprucing up the house, decluttering, staging, and of course landscaping....then there is the amount of time I spend at home studying, creating new marketing campaigns, networking and fine tuning our strategy. SO....my current sellers are still happy (knock on wood) but YOU GOT TO LOVE THOSE CURRENT

beaufort sc real estate agent: Front Door Guests Always Best...Especially if they have NO Choice! - 02/23/08 08:26 AM
We did it! We found the perfect house for my clients. Oh...wait...Mr. Listing Agent, is it just me or is there really only one door?????? This half a million dollar home that sits among the most majestic of oaks and gleams of new construction (built in late 2006) only has ONE DOOR??????? Ummmmm...ok. Now lets see..how to explain this one to my clients who are so extremely excited and even ready to write an offer BEFORE even visiting the home. Maybe the builder just preferred the guests in this home to only have half the chance of leaving?!?!? Or could it be the front

beaufort sc real estate agent: MayDay Mayday...Realtor OVERBOARD!!!!!!! - 02/18/08 09:38 AM
As if my day wasn't long enough....Moments after eloquently explaining the rise and fall of our ever changing tides while WALKING BACKWARDS IN HIGH HEELS on a floating dock...I busted my @$$...Yep. Sorry for the language but there simply isn't a better word for it. There are moments in our careers that are easily recoverable...My friends..this WAS NOT one of them. We have a little thing called pluff mud here in Beaufort South Carolina. It is part mud, part water, part oyster shell, and part quick sand!!! I fell in all parts:) My clients, bless their hearts, were able to
