Come on outside Beaufort. I am fairly certain the sky is NOT falling, not today anyway. Although our heads have been less than delicately plucked from the clouds, the ground is willing to support the return of our feet. It was fun while it lasted, a time in recent history where a pulse guaranteed riches in real estate. The local restaurants were a buzz with Realtors, builders, and appraisers. We all had a friend, cousin, or not too distant relative whose middle name was Developer.

Riding my bicycle, walking my dog, or even driving through endless communities I am fairly certain it never occurred to me the time, thought, effort, vision, and challenges that stood before the first brick was laid, first sign hung, or first doorbell rang. I look at things differently now. I am embarking on another journey from dirt to discovery, from permitting to plumbing, from speculative to special. I guess I could call him my other Uncle Sam but I have chosen to call him Boss. Yes, he takes a chunk out of every commission check I earn. He doesn't take the endless phone calls, answer the daily 50 questions, he doesn't dissect the home inspection, or find a way to explain to a seller that, well, they DO have a pet odor problem. It is so frustrating to me and my clients when they are rushed from their homes for a showing only to find that the buyers have no immediate ability to buy, actually they may never buy. Are sellers not faced with enough problems? I have several listings that are simply breath taking. They are custom, elegant, jewel-of-the-lowcountry style homes. It is like a yearbook of homes, a line up of the usual suspects or mugshots from a failed open house. You know exactly what I am talking about...that once incredibly thick magazine or special section of the newspaper that did nothing more than remind sellers that their property was ever so available. Magazine and newspaper editors alike are not exempt from the "change it or trade it" career in which Realtors are constantly adapting. Many of my clients are Marines, the backbone of our country. The backbone of those Marines are a slightly less talked about group, their wives. These women are nothing short of amazing. They hold it together. "It" being their family, their household, their lives all the while supporting their husband in a way that only they can. These women don't have their own reality show nor are their summer dresses decorated with honors, but their hearts are a true badge of courage that I have the pleasure of seeing everyday.

Maybe it is the rain? But today while checking in on all of my prospects, suddenly I was transformed back to being a 9 year old little girl with a huge bucket following my dad row by row. Oh I how I hated that darn bucket and those horrible squeaky boots he made me wear to avoid being bitten by anything hiding in the greens.
