port royal sc: I Attended the Town Hall Meeting and Felt GUILTY!!!! - 09/28/10 10:50 AM
It was pouring rain. Not sprinkles, not misting, not even a light shower instead it was like walking through a car wash. I could have come up with at least 200 excuses, some even viable, not to attend yesterday's Port Royal Town Hall meeting. For starters, it was Monday. To add insult to injury it was Monday at 4pm, on the other side of town, and of course all the good parking spots had been taken. Problem is, I gave my word. Darn integrity!
We get so busy, so caught up in paperwork and the day to day tasks that somehow … (6 comments)

port royal sc: Port Royal South Carolina and Development Dreams~! - 09/23/10 08:19 PM
It is no secret that Beaufort, South Carolina draws those in search of beauty, history, peace and even home. With the rise and fall of the tides, artists, historians, students, and outdoor enthusiast flock to our marshlands guarded majestically by the graceful live oaks draped in moss and Southern charm.
With the many accolades afforded to Beautiful Beaufort by the Sea, her lesser known, yet equally magical sister, Port Royal, sits quietly patiently awaiting her day in the sun.
For many years front porch discussions, town hall conversations, and development debates forged on with spirited views from those that love her … (3 comments)

port royal sc: Find 100 Ways - 08/14/09 04:27 PM
As I close out the week, I take a moment to reflect on the successes, the mishaps, the close calls, the ah ha's and the oh no's. I am the first to put my own nose in the corner when I have done wrong; however, I am learning to pat myself on the back when I have behaved well (granted not a frequent occurrence).
I am patting away, matter of fact, I may just congratulate myself.
Arrogant? Maybe. Not my intention.
The current market is difficult. The current way of thinking compounds that difficulty at a higher rate than our growing deficit (I … (6 comments)

port royal sc: What it Means To Live In Port Royal - 02/11/09 02:19 PM
As I was going through all of the information about Beaufort, SC I realized there simply isn't enough about Port Royal.
Port Royal is one of Beaufort's most treasured communities. It has an eclectic feel that attracts a most unique population.

With Port Royal's "mixed-used" zoning capabilities many artist and small business owners are able to operate directly out of their residence.
I lived in Port Royal for three lovely years. My favorite activity was walking down to the Sands Beach. It was always the perfect way to begin, or end a busy day. On my way to The Sands, … (4 comments)

port royal sc: Like A Bunch Of Sun-Worshiping Fiddler Crabs - 02/08/09 03:59 PM
The best part of our annual cold snap is the day it is over! The sun rose this morning and out popped the smiling faces of the anti-cold Beaufortonians. We came crawling out like a bunch of sun-worshiping fiddler crabs.

It is safe to say it would be a challenge to find a frown on this glorious Spring-like Sunday.

The waterways are buzzing with boats and kayaks, the golf courses gleam with activity, the downtown shops and cafe's are bubbling with visitors and locals alike.

The Blue Herons, Egrets, and Ibis are soaking up the warm … (10 comments)

port royal sc: Spring Time is Just Around The Corner~~~ - 04/16/08 10:55 AM
Native plants are plants that have adapted to the geography, rainfall levels, and climate of a particular region.
Native plants occur in communities, that is, they have evolved together with other plants.
As a result, a community of native plants provides habitat for a variety of native wildlife species such as songbirds and butterflies.
Who doesn't like those? The reason you might want to consider incorporating native plants into your landscape is that they provide a beautiful, hardy, drought resistant, low maintenance area to your landscape, while benefiting the environment.
And the environment needs all the help we can give it:)

port royal sc: The Truth About Cats and Dogs - 03/15/08 09:30 AM
Pets have an instinctive fear of new surroundings. Dogs and cats need time to get used to the new sights and smells associated with a new home and you will want to help them adjust quickly.
You should keep your pet restricted until it realizes that this is the new home and the family is going to stay here. Otherwise it may wander off and try to return to your old home.
This is especially true for cats, and they should be kept inside for several weeks. To help your pets feel at home, put their familiar food and water dishes, bed, … (4 comments)
